Microsoft Teams Rooms Launches Digital Signage to Transform Workplace Communication

0

Microsoft has unveiled a new digital signage mode for Microsoft Teams Rooms, transforming meeting room displays into dynamic communication tools. This feature allows businesses to leverage existing hardware to display company updates, event announcements, and other important content when the devices are not in use for meetings or presentations.

Optimized Use of Meeting Room Displays

Digital signage mode activates automatically when Teams Rooms devices are idle. It can display a variety of content, including organizational news, HR updates, and internal campaigns. Users have the option to display this content alongside the Teams Rooms banner, which shows room details and schedules, or to present the content in full-screen mode by hiding the banner.

To ensure a seamless user experience, signage mode is easily customizable. Organizations can set timers to determine how quickly signage mode activates after a room becomes idle and how soon it deactivates before a meeting starts.

Designed with sustainability in mind, signage mode adheres to the device’s screen timeout settings by default, helping to prevent screen burn and reduce energy consumption. However, businesses with high-visibility meeting rooms, such as those with glass walls or open areas, can override these settings to ensure maximum content visibility.

Integration with Leading Digital Signage Solutions

Microsoft has partnered with trusted providers Appspace and XOGO, enabling seamless content management through the Teams Rooms Pro Management portal. These integrations streamline the onboarding process, automatically registering Teams Rooms devices within the providers’ content management systems. Once registered, users can update and manage their digital signage content directly through Appspace or XOGO.

For organizations not using these third-party platforms, Microsoft offers the flexibility to use custom web URLs as signage sources, making it easier to display tailored content.

Streamlined Management and Role-Based Access

The Teams Rooms Pro Management portal simplifies the configuration of digital signage settings, allowing administrators to apply configurations at the tenant level or to specific room groups. The platform supports bulk assignments, making it easy to manage multiple devices simultaneously.

Role-based access control (RBAC) ensures flexible governance, with default permissions assigned to Teams Rooms Pro Managers and M365 Global Admins. Additional users can be granted permissions for tenant-wide or room-specific signage management as needed.

Availability and Future Enhancements

Digital signage mode is currently available for Teams Rooms on Windows with a Teams Rooms Pro license for commercial cloud users. Integrations with Appspace and XOGO require separate subscriptions. Microsoft has announced plans to expand support to Government Community Cloud (GCC) environments, including GCC High, Department of Defense (DoD), and Teams Rooms on Android in the near future.

LG Display Introduces Industry-First Stretchable Display with 50% Expandability

LG Display, a global leader in advanced display technology, has unveiled the world’s first stretchable display with an unprecedented 50% elongation capability. The company showcased this innovative technology at LG Science Park during a meeting attended by over 100 experts from South Korea’s industry, academia, and research communities.

Stretchable displays are considered a breakthrough in screen technology due to their ability to change shape, including stretching, folding, and twisting, without compromising functionality. LG Display’s latest prototype features a 12-inch panel that can expand to 18 inches, maintaining a high resolution of 100ppi (pixels per inch) and vibrant RGB color output.

Significant Technological Advancements

This new display represents a significant improvement over LG Display’s 2022 prototype, which had a 20% stretchability rate. To achieve this milestone, the company utilized cutting-edge materials and designs, including:

  • Special Silicon Material Substrate: Similar to those used in contact lenses, offering enhanced flexibility.
  • Micro-LED Technology: Light sources as small as 40μm ensure durability and consistent image quality.
  • Innovative Wiring Design: Improves stretchability and withstands repeated deformations.

The panel has been tested to endure over 10,000 stretches, maintaining performance under extreme conditions such as temperature fluctuations and physical impacts.

Versatile Applications Across Industries

The stretchable display’s thin, lightweight, and flexible characteristics open up a range of potential applications. Its ability to adhere to irregular surfaces, including clothing and skin, positions it as a transformative solution for industries such as:

  • Wearables and Fashion: Integrating displays into garments and accessories.
  • Automotive: Flexible dashboard panels that adjust to user preferences.
  • Emergency Services: Wearable displays for firefighters, providing critical real-time information during operations.

Collaborative Innovation

Since being appointed as the lead company for South Korea’s national Stretchable Display project in 2020, LG Display has collaborated with 19 domestic industry and research institutions. The project is part of a larger initiative supported by South Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) to develop next-generation display technologies.

This collaborative effort has not only advanced core technologies but also contributed to the localization of essential materials, components, and equipment, strengthening South Korea’s R&D ecosystem.

“We are committed to fostering a sustainable display technology ecosystem through close collaboration with industry, academia, and research partners,” said Soo-young Yoon, CTO and Executive Vice President of LG Display.

JCDecaux SE (Euronext Paris: DEC), the world’s leading outdoor advertising company, has released its financial results for the third quarter of 2024, reporting robust growth across all business segments.

Q3 2024 Trading Update

JCDecaux posted an adjusted revenue of €948.2 million, marking a +10.9% increase compared to Q3 2023. On an organic basis, the company’s revenue rose by +11.1%, driven by the sustained momentum in Digital Out of Home (DOOH) advertising and key international contract wins.

Business Highlights

Key Contract Wins

Asia-Pacific

  • Macau International Airport Contract Renewal
JCDecaux Macau, a joint venture between JCDecaux (80% equity) and HN Group (20% equity), secured a 10-year exclusive advertising contract with Macau International Airport. This win builds on the company’s recent award of a 15-year street furniture contract in Macau, solidifying its dominance in the region.

Europe

  • London Bus Shelter Advertising Contract
JCDecaux retained the prestigious Transport for London (TfL) bus shelter advertising contract, covering over 4,700 advertising shelters across the city. This 8-year contract, with a 2-year extension option, includes both digital and non-digital advertising assets, reinforcing JCDecaux’s foothold in the UK market.
  • Stockholm Bus Shelter and Subway Contracts
JCDecaux Sweden AB won major contracts for 1,500+ bus shelters and advertising rights in 14 central subway and commuter train stations. The contracts, commencing January 2026, will incorporate state-of-the-art digital displays, enhancing the city’s urban advertising landscape.

Sustainability Milestone

In July, JCDecaux’s carbon reduction strategy was validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), affirming its leadership in sustainable practices. This recognition aligns JCDecaux with global efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, furthering its commitment to eco-responsibility.

Outlook for Q4 2024

JCDecaux anticipates low single-digit organic revenue growth in Q4 2024, amid macroeconomic uncertainties such as government budget debates in France and the UK. JCDecaux’s Q3 2024 results reflect its robust business model, driven by innovation in DOOH and strategic market expansion. Analysts predict that the company’s diversified portfolio and strong presence in high-growth markets, such as Asia-Pacific and Europe, will continue to drive its performance. However, macroeconomic factors, including government budget constraints and consumer demand fluctuations, could pose challenges in the short term. Despite these potential headwinds, JCDecaux’s strong pipeline of contracts and commitment to sustainability position it well to maintain its leadership in the dynamic OOH advertising landscape.
