LodgeNet Healthcare Announces Deployment of Interactive Patient Television System in Oklahoma Heart Hospital
Professional Services Team Updates Television Infrastructure to Enable System Turn-On At Grand Opening and Support Future Technology Enhancements
LodgeNet Healthcare, a division of LodgeNet Interactive Corporation and the leading provider of interactive patient television solutions, today announced that its LodgeNetRX® Interactive Patient Television System is now serving patients at the Oklahoma Heart Hospital in Oklahoma City. With the installation, Oklahoma Heart becomes another leading organization choosing LodgeNet Healthcare to enhance its patient television system.
Already recognized as a leader in patient satisfaction (and ranked in the top 1% nationally), Oklahoma Heart Hospital wanted to enhance their patient experience further by implementing the LodgeNetRX Interactive Patient Television System. Steve Miller, CIO for Oklahoma Heart, says his organization needed a patient television solution to meet the needs of their recently renovated facility – and on an accelerated timeline. “We had to make the best decision from an investment perspective, but we also wanted a solution that would be ready for our grand opening,” he says. LodgeNet completed the installation on schedule in 11 weeks from contract to implementation, allowing Oklahoma Heart to open with its interactive TV solution in place.
Miller explains that Oklahoma Heart was especially interested in the LodgeNet solution’s ability to improve the delivery of videos that educate patients about their conditions and show them how to better practice prevention and wellness. “As the nation’s first all-digital hospital, we were already focused on saving time and giving our patients the finest care available,” he says. “The on demand education capabilities of the LodgeNet system will further enhance that commitment by making education more convenient and accessible to patients – and less work for nursing staff to manage.” Oklahoma Heart patients and their visitors can also enjoy on demand movies, access hospital information and request services through the television.
Gary Kolbeck, General Manager for LodgeNet Healthcare, says that the company’s Professional Services team updated the facility’s television infrastructure prior to installing the LodgeNetRX solution. This renovation accommodates the increased demands that will be placed on the system and establishes the foundation for its future expansion. “To reliably support the technology hospitals want to provide, the network architecture must be evaluated and optimized for bandwidth and picture quality at every location,” Kolbeck explains. “With our experience and expertise, we’re able to see the whole picture and can address a facility’s patient education and entertainment needs from end to end.”
Kolbeck adds that the Oklahoma Heart installation is representative of the technology initiatives many healthcare facilities are undertaking. Nearly $28 billion worth of healthcare facility renovations are underway, yet many facilities have not given their television systems the updates necessary to deliver in the new digital world. “Experts project that by 2010, more than $60 billion will be spent on ‘medical tourism’ to procure goods and services outside the United States,” he says. “With patients recognizing they have choices, the hospitals that embrace every aspect of the patient experience will find themselves ahead of the curve. We are pleased to help Oklahoma Heart Hospital further strengthen their position among the leaders in their field.”

Singapore-based digital signage innovator, 1-2-1VIEW Media Holdings Pte Ltd, has recently unveiled its latest software upgrade, the Upgrade Package 3.3, alongside the advanced InterFace 2.0 audience measurement system. This release introduces a plethora of new features designed to enhance user interaction and display flexibility, setting a new standard in digital signage technology.
The standout feature of Upgrade Package 3.3 is its classified ads application program, which revolutionizes the way viewers engage with digital signs. Users can now submit personal items for sale directly through the digital signage interface, with the system smartly categorizing these ads by local area to facilitate convenient transactions. This interactive capability is expected to add significant value to the digital signage networks by boosting viewer engagement and providing localized content.
Additionally, the latest upgrade supports high-impact video walls and portrait screen orientations, broadening the scope of its application in diverse settings. The flexibility is further enhanced by the ability to partition screens into zones, which can be used to display targeted branding messages or essential information like weather updates or financial news through dynamic HTML content streaming.
The control and command functions have also been strengthened in this release, offering network administrators more robust and comprehensive management tools. These include the ability to send instant or pre-programmed messages across a network of screens, customizable to group-specific communications needs. The media players, particularly the Ninja N406, have been upgraded to preview content during playlist creation, ensuring seamless media displays without interruptions.
Network sensitivity to time zones has been introduced for regional or global deployments, ensuring timely and relevant content delivery across different geographical locations. Upgrade Package 3.3 also integrates enhanced connectivity options including WiFi, Bluetooth, and 3G connections, along with remote on/off switching capability for media players, making it highly adaptable for varied operational environments.
Scheduled off-peak downloads and a media player status monitoring system with email alerts are part of the new functionalities that promise lower operational costs and increased efficiency for network administrators.
The innovative InterFace 2.0, a feature of the upgrade, provides audience measurement capabilities by tracking view counts and traffic patterns near the displays, offering valuable insights into the impact and reach of the content displayed.
These latest advancements will be showcased at the Outdoor Advertising Philippines 2009 in Manila, where 1-2-1VIEW will occupy booth 83. This event promises to be a significant platform for demonstrating the upgraded capabilities and engaging with potential clients and industry stakeholders.
