NextWindow multi-touch technology comes to life in Dell’s Studio One 19 desktop
NextWindow, the market and technology leader in optical multi-touch screens for personal computers, has developed solutions for the top two touch-enabled all-in-one consumer PCs. Recently ending its most successful year ever, NextWindow today announced its 1900 series touch screen has been integrated into the Dell Studio One 19 all-in-one consumer PC, which features an 18.5-inch widescreen flat panel display.
Why touch on a desktop? NextWindow CEO Al Monro says the popularity of touch on mobile phones has heightened demand for touch-enabled PCs: “In the old days, it was really overt—you had to have signs on a touch-screen kiosk so people would know they could touch it. Since the Apple iPhone, and the growth of touch throughout the mobile phone market, people are now expecting a touch screen on every computer.”
In particular, multi-touch opens possibilities for a new wave of consumer and business applications. NextWindow’s TruRange® technology allows users to rotate and move photos on their desktop, organize files with the swipe of a finger, and zoom on a graph by pinching the screen. Other multi-touch functionality includes the ability to create a song using an interactive music application and develop digital art with their fingers or even a brush.
NextWindow has been at the center of the touch-screen industry for nearly 10 years, with hundreds of thousands of the company’s products in-use worldwide today. NextWindow began selling into the PC market in 2007. Its first customer was HP, whose TouchSmart all-in-one PC now uses NextWindow touch screens.
