0

Las Vegas, NV – LG Electronics USA has launched the industry’s first “Ultra High-Definition” (UHD) 4K digital signage display, marking its debut with an installation at Las Vegas’ McCarran International Airport. The commercial version of the acclaimed LG 84-inch class Ultra HD TV, the new display model 84WS70MS-B, is the centerpiece of LG’s 2013 digital signage lineup showcased at the Digital Signage Expo 2013 (booth 500).

Groundbreaking Display Technology

The 84-inch class Ultra HD Signage Display features a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels, offering four times the clarity of traditional HD displays. This large-screen display, now part of McCarran Airport’s D Concourse wayfinder kiosk, enhances passenger navigation with its vivid, high-resolution visuals. The kiosk serves approximately 32,000 passengers daily, providing clear and engaging directional information.

Innovative Features

The display’s bezel measures just 27.9mm, facilitating seamless side-by-side installations. It supports both portrait and landscape orientations, making it versatile for various commercial applications. Integrated IPS panel technology ensures consistent color accuracy and contrast from wide viewing angles, addressing common issues like overheating with a temperature tolerance of up to 230 degrees Fahrenheit.

Enhanced User Experience

The installation at McCarran International Airport highlights the practical application of LG’s Ultra HD display. With nearly 32,000 daily passengers in the D Concourse, the new wayfinder kiosk utilizes two 84-inch displays to guide travelers effectively. The displays are encased in an 11-foot tall kiosk, presenting dynamic content through a wayfinder application developed by Four Winds Interactive.

LG’s Commitment to Quality and Innovation

“LG continues to innovate in the emerging Ultra HD segment,” said Y.K. Cho, B2B senior vice president, LG Electronics USA. “We are proud to introduce our award-winning Ultra HD display technology to the commercial market, providing incredible picture quality on a large scale for interactive applications.”

Technological Integration

The display includes Smart Energy Saving, Temperature Sensor, Auto Brightness Sensor, ISM Method, and Key Lock features. A slot for an external media player enhances its slim profile and maintenance convenience. The SuperSign Elite-w Lite platform enables easy template pre-loading and dynamic content management, ensuring user-friendly interface and control over networked displays.

WATCHOUT on tour in The Great Journey across EuropeMulti-image software powerfully enhances the intersection of Education and the Visitor Experience

Dutch installation Artist, Judith Nab has created a fully immersive theatre experience in the form of a custom-built digital bus tour for children aged between 4 to 7 years. Established in 2010, The Great Journey was first located in Flanders, Belgium. After two years it moved to Amsterdam and in late 2012 it embarked on a European-wide tour. Since opening, the tour has received over 10,000 visitors.

The bus uses WATCHOUT™ multi-image and presentation software, which was supplied by WATCHOUT Premium Partner, AV Trade to manage digitally animated multimedia content over LCD screens positioned on the bus windows.

The experience takes the young travellers on a journey around the world in 37 minutes, exploring faraway countries and places such as mountains and valleys, dark woods and even the bottom of the sea.

“For some children, theatre and cultural activities are not always accessible. Our bus makes a stop right in front of schools and takes them on a trip,” says Judith Nab.

Inspired by a 6-month journey across the world when Nab was just ten years old, Nab created all the animated drawings with her father Dirck Nab.

“WATCHOUT gave us the opportunity to work with foreground and background images and adapt them to our needs. WATCHOUT is easy to use and very reliable.”

“WATCHOUT was a good choice for this installation and combines education and the visitor experience,” says Jan Breel, Managing Director at AV Trade.

Fredrik Svahnberg, Marketing Director at Dataton adds: “the creative ways in which WATCHOUT is used always impresses us. We’re delighted that this experience has been so successful for thousands of children across Europe.”

The Great Journey’s tour schedule can be found at www.judithnab.nl.

Using intelligent lighting technology developed by amBX UK, an interactive app analyses the creative as it is displayed and then amplifies the corresponding most dominant colours throughout the tower’s LED lighting system which surrounds the structure.

So if the creative is red at the top and blue at the bottom for example, the controller will set the colours to “shower” the structure with light in the corresponding colours.
