Wildstone Secures First Australian Deal with Sale and Leaseback Agreement for Digital Billboards

0

Wildstone, a leading owner of outdoor media infrastructure across the UK and Europe, has secured its first deal in the Australian out-of-home (OOH) advertising market. The company has signed a sale and leaseback agreement with Alliance Outdoor Media Group to fund and install two new digital billboard sites in Melbourne’s outer suburbs.

This agreement marks Wildstone’s first transaction in Australia since it entered the market in May 2024, and introduces its established business model, which involves acquiring OOH infrastructure and leasing it back to media operators. This approach is designed to increase operational efficiency for media companies by allowing them to focus on media sales, while Wildstone manages the assets.

The two digital billboard sites in Melbourne will be located at high-traffic intersections. The first, in Nunawading, features a 19.99m x 4.60m digital screen at the corner of Maroondah Highway and Springvale Road, a key thoroughfare. The second site is situated in Epping along the Craigieburn Bypass, where a digital billboard measuring 18.99m x 4.57m will be installed. Alliance Outdoor Media Group will handle media sales for both locations.

Noel Cook, Managing Director of Wildstone Australia, expressed optimism about the deal, stating, “We are pleased to have completed our first sale and leaseback transaction in Australia. This is the first of many deals we anticipate, as we continue to engage with billboard owners nationwide and contribute to the growth of the digital OOH sector.”

Mark Buckley, General Manager of Alliance Outdoor Media Group, commented on the agreement: “Working with Wildstone Australia was a smooth process. Their expertise in the industry made it easy to structure this deal, and we look forward to future collaborations.”

Wildstone’s entry into Australia reflects its broader global expansion strategy. The company is known for its portfolio of over 5,000 advertising assets, including digital billboards and classic OOH formats, across the UK and Europe. It joined Australia’s Outdoor Media Association earlier this year, signaling its commitment to the local market and the growth of digital outdoor advertising.

Alliance Outdoor Media Group is a national billboard media provider in Australia, working with a network of independent OOH media owners. The company provides access to premium advertising sites across the country, offering advertisers the opportunity to reach key audiences with impactful outdoor campaigns.

Co-op Expands Retail Media Network with 300 New Digital Screens Across UK Stores

0

The Co-op Media Network (CMN) has announced plans to install 300 new front-of-store digital media screens, expanding its digital advertising network to over 9,000 screens across its store estate. This initiative, in partnership with SMG, a leading UK retail media operator, is designed to increase advertising opportunities for FMCG brands and boost customer engagement within Co-op’s convenience stores.

The rollout will take place in 300 high-footfall, urban locations, including Greater London (12%), Greater Manchester (5%), and North Yorkshire (2.5%). With installation support from Commercial and software by Grassfish, the new screens are expected to go live in 24 stores each week until January 2025.

Expanding Co-op’s Digital Capabilities

The new digital screens will be placed at key positions in Co-op stores, including store entrances, foyers, and outward-facing windows, to maximize visibility for both customers and passers-by. This increased reach provides brands with the ability to connect with shoppers early in their journey, influencing purchasing decisions and boosting brand awareness.

With more than 16 million weekly transactions across its 2,400 stores, Co-op is positioning itself as a leader in the retail media space. These additional screens will further enhance the advertising options available to FMCG brands, supporting campaigns focused on core shopper missions such as food-to-go, meal solutions, and treat purchases.

Matt Hood, Managing Director of Co-op Food, highlighted the significant opportunity for brands to engage with Co-op shoppers, noting that Co-op’s high customer traffic can deliver measurable results for retail media investments.

“We’re the experts in convenience, and given our unparalleled shopper footfall, we want brands that invest with us to see clear results. Co-op’s retail media offering provides a consistent return on investment across the board,” Hood said.

By extending its digital screen presence, Co-op aims to enhance its position as the UK’s largest media owner in the convenience sector, offering brands increased visibility and more frequent customer interactions.

In-Store Digital Media Growth

Lee LeFeuvre, Chief Commercial Officer at SMG, emphasized the ongoing digitization trend in retail, noting that over 90% of grocery purchases still occur in-store.

“With Co-op’s investment in digital screens, brands can connect with customers throughout the shopping experience, offering personalized and dynamic content that drives engagement and purchasing decisions,” LeFeuvre said.

Simone Hindmarch, Co-founder and Managing Director of Commercial, highlighted the benefits of the partnership, saying, “This collaboration allows us to help Co-op create a rich, interactive environment that boosts footfall, increases revenue, and enhances customer loyalty.”

Billups Launches New Contextual and Creative Attention Metrics for OOH Media

0

Billups, a leading independent Out-of-Home (OOH) managed services agency, has launched contextual and creative attention metrics for OOH media. The new attention metric evaluates how traditional and digital OOH units stand out in their environments, akin to attention measurement in other channels.

The AI-based Billups Analytics™ Attention Dashboard is a privacy-compliant platform that assesses the quality of OOH impressions. It evaluates site-specific features impacting viewer attention and includes metrics such as reach, frequency, audience demographics, and dwell-time analysis. These metrics estimate how effectively ads capture and retain viewer attention.

Billups’ creative optimization uses image analysis to illustrate how information distribution affects attention, powered by Billups’ proprietary AI-based SSI model. This technology delivers visual analyses, highlighting the most attention-grabbing parts of the creative.

A recent campaign for Cognitiv’s Deep Learning Advertising Platform demonstrated the effectiveness of these new metrics, with an average attention score of 44 percent categorized as “exceptional.” Two units achieved “outstanding” scores of 99 percent and 97 percent, with dwell times over three times higher than average.

“We turned to Billups for our first brand-building campaign using OOH,” said Justine Frostad, SVP of Marketing at Cognitiv. “Collecting attention insights on our branding investment changes our approach by showing which units worked best and optimizing future campaigns. Our strategy’s effectiveness was further proven by a 650% increase in organic LinkedIn searches.”

Shawn Spooner, Global Chief Technology Officer at Billups, added, “In a crowded media environment, precise tools to measure and optimize campaigns are critical. The Billups Analytics™ Attention Dashboard combines proprietary methodologies with established OOH space-measurement standards, harnessing patented machine learning algorithms and computer vision to assess ad effectiveness accurately.”

The Billups Analytics™ Attention Dashboard is now in beta for Billups clients and partners in the US and Europe, with expansions to Canada and the Asia-Pacific region in Q4 2024.

Amazon Introduces New Signage Stick Media Player for SMBs

Amazon has introduced a new digital signage media player, the Amazon Signage Stick, aimed specifically at small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) looking for an affordable and professional solution to enhance their in-store and in-office communications. Priced at around $100 USD, the Amazon Signage Stick simplifies the setup and management of digital displays, making it a straightforward option for businesses wanting to deploy digital signage.

Purpose-Built for Digital Signage

The Amazon Signage Stick is a purpose-built device optimized for digital signage applications, distinguishing it from Amazon’s popular Fire TV Stick, which has been widely used for signage but was not originally designed for professional use. In early 2024, updates to Amazon’s Fire OS affected the Fire TV Stick’s compatibility with certain automation tools, requiring manual intervention and making it less suitable for unattended signage setups.

With the launch of the Signage Stick, Amazon is offering a new solution that aligns more closely with the requirements of digital signage users. The device is designed to run content management systems (CMS) in kiosk mode, ensuring that it automatically launches required software on startup and resumes operations seamlessly after restarts or power interruptions, making it suitable for use in retail, corporate, and healthcare environments.

Signage Stick Technical Features and Specifications

The Amazon Signage Stick is built to deliver reliable performance for a variety of digital signage scenarios. It features a quad-core system-on-chip (SoC) for enhanced processing power and supports 4K video playback, providing high-quality visual output. The device is also equipped with Wi-Fi 6E, which helps ensure stable connectivity even in high-traffic areas.

With a compact size of 38 mm x 157 mm x 17 mm and weighing just 51 grams, the Amazon Signage Stick is easy to integrate into existing setups, whether mounted behind displays or incorporated into other installations. Amazon has also included several security features, such as a secure bootloader, data encryption, and regular software updates, to maintain reliable and safe operations over time. The company has committed to supporting the Signage Stick with security patches for at least three years after the product is discontinued.

CMS Compatibility and Flexibility

The Amazon Signage Stick’s out-of-the-box compatibility with a range of CMS platforms gives users the flexibility to choose a solution that fits their needs. Supported CMS partners include:

  • AbleSign
  • Neon
  • NoviSign
  • NowSignage
  • OptiSign
  • Play Digital Signage
  • PosterBooking
  • Reach Media
  • Rise Vision
  • ScreenCloud
  • Yodeck

This extensive list of launch CMS partners allows businesses to choose a solution that best fits their budget and technical needs. Each supported CMS may require a separate subscription, but this flexibility ensures businesses are not limited to a single option. In the future, more CMS providers will integrate their apps with the Amazon Signage Stick, further expanding the range of choices available.

Easy Setup and Centralized Management

Setting up the Amazon Signage Stick is straightforward, requiring just a few steps: connect the device to a display, establish a Wi-Fi connection, and complete the pairing process through Amazon’s Signage Manager interface, accessible remotely via a mobile device. This setup process is ideal for multi-location deployments, reducing the need for on-site technical support.

Each display requires its own Amazon Signage Stick unit, but the centralized management capabilities make it easy to scale digital signage networks, ensuring consistent performance and content delivery across all screens.

With the launch of the Amazon Signage Stick, Amazon is making a strategic entry into the digital signage hardware market, traditionally dominated by specialized hardware manufacturers. The device offers a cost-effective and user-friendly option for SMBs that may lack the resources to invest in high-end digital signage systems. By partnering with multiple CMS providers, Amazon provides flexibility in content management, lowering the barrier to entry for businesses looking to adopt digital signage solutions.

0

Times OOH Mauritius is enhancing the advertising landscape at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (SSRIA) with its latest installation of innovative digital media solutions. The company has introduced six double-sided video walls at the airport’s baggage claim hall, offering a premium platform for advertisers to capture the attention of passengers during key moments of their travel.

The newly installed video walls, each measuring 3.5 meters by 1.5 meters, are strategically positioned around the baggage carousels to create high-impact touchpoints as passengers collect their luggage. This addition is part of a broader digital advertising network at SSRIA, which currently features 42 digital displays, six large-format video screens, and two expansive video walls. The comprehensive network is designed to provide advertisers with maximum flexibility to execute visually engaging campaigns that leave a lasting impression.

Expanding Digital Presence Beyond the Airport

Times OOH Mauritius is also extending its digital presence across the island to cover high-traffic commercial areas. The company operates digital advertising networks at two of Mauritius’ busiest shopping malls—Bagatelle and Jumbo Phoenix—serving around 1.1 million visitors each month. This expansion aims to provide brands with broader advertising options to reach both local and international audiences.

A Growing Network of Digital Installations

The latest enhancements at the airport build on a previous milestone achieved in November 2023, when Times OOH Mauritius installed two large-format video walls in the immigration hall, each measuring 9 meters by 3 meters. These installations set a new benchmark for indoor digital advertising in Mauritius, providing brands a unique opportunity to connect with arriving passengers through high-quality, immersive content.

Dev Dutt Das, Head of Business at Times OOH Mauritius, emphasized the company’s focus on digital innovation: “Digital is undeniably the future of advertising, and at Times OOH, we are committed to staying ahead of the curve. Our installations at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport are not just about visibility; they are about delivering an engaging experience that resonates with today’s digital-first audience.”

In addition to enhancing its digital advertising capabilities, Times OOH Mauritius is actively pursuing sustainability through eco-friendly initiatives, including repurposing materials into reusable products and using solar energy to power its large-format billboards.

LG Outlines Strategic Vision for AI webOS Ecosystem at 2024 Summit

0

LG Electronics unveiled plans to expand its AI-powered webOS platform and strengthen its position in the smart device ecosystem during its annual webOS Summit 2024 in Incheon, South Korea. Themed “Empowering webOS with AI,” the event gathered around 300 representatives from 140 partner companies across 24 countries, showcasing LG’s vision for the future of webOS as a central component in its transformation from a consumer electronics manufacturer to a comprehensive Smart Life Solution Company. The summit also marked the tenth anniversary of the webOS platform on LG smart TVs.

To support the expansion of its webOS platform, LG has committed more than KRW 1 trillion (approximately USD 740 million) in strategic investments. This initiative aims to broaden webOS’s capabilities and diversify its offerings to better serve the growing needs of users across multiple industries. The platform currently provides over 4,000 apps, covering entertainment, education, fitness, and gaming, and is used by customers in over 180 countries.

A core focus for LG is positioning webOS as a premier platform for cloud gaming. Currently, AI webOS supports approximately 4,500 games through major cloud services, including GeForce NOW and Amazon Luna. The company has partnered with MediaTek and Razer to integrate Bluetooth Ultra-Low Latency (BT ULL) technology, which reduces input lag to just 1 millisecond when using Bluetooth gaming controllers. This advancement, demonstrated during the summit, aims to provide a more immersive and responsive gaming experience for users.

Additionally, LG is investing in the development of new AI-based features to enhance user experiences across its platform. One example is AI Concierge, which uses voice recognition, search history, and user preferences to offer personalized recommendations for apps and content. By recognizing different voices, AI Concierge can automatically display a unique Home Screen for each user without manual profile selection, optimizing convenience and personalization.

Expanding webOS Beyond Smart TVs

Since making webOS available to other TV manufacturers in 2021, LG has signed licensing agreements with over 400 brands. This expansion extends webOS’s presence into non-TV segments such as automotive infotainment systems, digital signage, smart monitors, and projectors. These collaborations enable LG to leverage the flexibility of webOS to provide a unified user experience across a variety of devices.

LG’s efforts to monetize the webOS platform have also seen strong results. In 2024, revenue from advertising and services on webOS is projected to exceed KRW 1 trillion, reflecting a fourfold increase since 2021. This growth is fueled by LG Channels, a free, ad-supported streaming service available in 29 countries, which now offers more than 3,800 channels. As part of its expansion, LG is introducing LG Channels Showcase and LG 1, two new channels featuring curated premium entertainment content.

To further support its advertising initiatives, LG is enhancing the platform with AI-powered ad solutions that provide tailored content recommendations based on user preferences, delivering a more relevant viewing experience and increasing engagement. These strategies are expected to strengthen LG’s competitiveness in the growing digital advertising market.

To improve user convenience, LG introduced webOS Pay, a payment service designed to simplify content and service purchases on the webOS platform. This feature aims to streamline the shopping experience, making it faster and more intuitive for users to access premium content.

LG is also prioritizing partnerships and talent acquisition to expand its content offerings. The company recently hosted a global hackathon to identify new games and AI-powered applications suited for the webOS platform. Additionally, LG is collaborating with academic institutions such as Sungkyunkwan University and New York University to explore advanced game development and AI research, fostering innovation and strengthening its platform capabilities.

“Our webOS platform business continues to grow based on close collaboration with our partners and a focus on meeting diverse customer needs,” said Park Hyoung-sei, president of LG Home Entertainment Company. “As we celebrate a decade of webOS innovation, we remain committed to transforming LG into a leading media and entertainment platform company.”

Lemma Launches Lemma Infibid: Expanding Header Bidding Across DOOH, CTV, and Digital

0

Lemma, a global leader in emerging media advertising technology, has unveiled Lemma Infibid, an advanced omnichannel header bidding solution designed to optimize revenue for publishers. Lemma Infibid simplifies the programmatic landscape by enabling publishers to connect seamlessly with multiple demand sources across various advertising formats, including Digital Out-of-Home (DOOH), Connected TV (CTV), desktop, mobile, in-app, and in-game video.

Enhancing Programmatic Advertising Efficiency

Traditional header bidding has been a cornerstone of programmatic advertising, allowing publishers to increase revenue by offering ad space to multiple buyers simultaneously. However, conventional solutions are often fragmented and complex to implement, creating challenges for small and mid-sized publishers. Additionally, the rise of Google’s Exchange Bidding in Dynamic Allocation (EBDA) has introduced concerns around transparency and fairness in auctions, as some publishers feel it could prioritize Google’s own ad exchanges.

Lemma Infibid addresses these challenges by offering a streamlined solution that integrates various advertising formats into a single, intuitive platform. This unification of demand sources ensures that publishers can manage their inventory efficiently while maximizing yield.

Key Features of Lemma Infibid

  1. Omnichannel Integration: Lemma Infibid supports a broad range of advertising formats, allowing publishers to access cross-channel demand from a single platform. This includes support for DOOH, CTV, desktop, mobile, in-app, and in-game video, ensuring a unified monetization strategy.
  2. Real-Time Bidding Across All Formats: Through its real-time auction model, Lemma Infibid enables all demand sources to compete equally, ensuring publishers receive the maximum value for every impression.
  3. Compliance with Industry Standards: The platform adheres to Prebid.org guidelines, a widely recognized open-source standard for header bidding. This ensures transparency, data privacy, and adherence to best practices in programmatic advertising.
  4. AI-Driven Floor Price Optimization: Lemma Infibid utilizes AI to set optimal floor prices, helping publishers secure better rates without sacrificing demand.
  5. Global Demand Connectivity: Integrated with leading demand-side platforms (DSPs) and global advertising platforms, Lemma Infibid provides publishers with seamless access to a diverse range of buyers and high-value campaigns.

Simplifying the Header Bidding Process

Unlike conventional header bidding platforms that are often limited to specific channels, Lemma Infibid offers publishers a more comprehensive approach by connecting to a broader pool of demand sources. This solution eliminates traditional silos between different media formats, making it easier for publishers to unlock new revenue opportunities.

Lemma Infibid represents a significant step forward in omnichannel monetization technology,” said Gulab Patil, Founder & CEO of Lemma. “By offering a unified platform that simplifies the programmatic bidding process, we enable publishers to capitalize on a diverse array of demand sources, ultimately maximizing their revenue potential.”

Lemma Infibid is available in both Wrapper and Adaptor formats, allowing publishers to choose the integration method that best fits their technical requirements. This flexibility makes it accessible to publishers of all sizes, from large media houses to independent developers.

About Lemma

As an omnichannel platform for emerging advertising formats, Lemma connects publishers, brands, and DSPs to efficiently manage digital campaigns across a variety of channels. With a strong presence in North America and EMEA, Lemma’s programmatic solutions enable advertisers to engage audiences through DOOH, CTV, and other innovative formats. The company’s platform is designed to simplify ad operations, enhance revenue potential, and drive business growth for media owners globally.

JCDecaux Expands Central American Presence with Acquisition of Leading OOH Company IMC

0

JCDecaux SE, the world’s leading outdoor advertising company, has announced a strategic acquisition through its subsidiary, JCDecaux Top Media SA. The company has acquired a 70% stake in International Media Central (IMC), a top Out-of-Home (OOH) advertising company in Central America, and the leading provider in Costa Rica.

As part of this transaction, the remaining IMC shareholders have exchanged their 30% shares for a 9% equity stake in a newly established joint-venture that will consolidate all JCDecaux’s operations across Central America. This new joint entity will encompass six countries—Costa Rica, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama—strengthening JCDecaux’s market presence in the region. The joint-venture will be owned by JCDecaux SE (51%), Publigrafik, Top Partners, and IMC’s previous shareholders.

Founded in 2004, IMC has built a strong presence in the Central American OOH market, particularly in Costa Rica, where it is recognized as the number one player. The company operates approximately 4,000 advertising panels, including both digital and analogue formats, spread across a variety of environments such as billboards, shopping malls, public transportation, and street furniture. IMC’s established network and local expertise will support JCDecaux’s strategy to grow its footprint in the region and offer innovative advertising solutions to its clients.

The Central American market, with its combined population of 51.7 million and annual advertising investments estimated at over USD 2.2 billion, is showing strong growth potential. The region has a unique strategic position, highlighted by the Panama Canal’s impact on logistics and mobility, making it a key area for expansion. Although Out-of-Home advertising currently represents only around 7% of the total advertising spend in Central America—below the global average—digital transformation and sustainable initiatives are expected to drive further growth in the coming years.

The acquisition of IMC enables JCDecaux to combine its global expertise with IMC’s local knowledge, allowing the company to better serve advertisers in a fragmented market. The partnership will focus on developing data-driven media solutions, particularly in the rapidly growing Digital Out-of-Home (DOOH) segment. With an emphasis on innovation and performance measurement, JCDecaux and IMC aim to provide advertisers with more targeted and impactful advertising options.

Commenting on the acquisition, Marco A Robert, Managing Partner of IMC, said, “Joining forces with JCDecaux is a significant step in our journey. Over the past two decades, we have built a strong business in Costa Rica and beyond. This partnership will enable us to further enhance our services by incorporating digital and data-driven advertising solutions, while continuing to provide value to our clients and the communities we serve.”

Jean-Charles Decaux, Chairman of the Executive Board and Co-CEO of JCDecaux, added, “This acquisition supports our strategic ambition to expand in Central America and solidify our position in Costa Rica. We look forward to leveraging IMC’s local expertise to strengthen our service offerings and continue developing sustainable and innovative advertising solutions.”

The new joint-venture will allow JCDecaux to better navigate a highly fragmented market, bringing its advanced digital capabilities and global standards to Central America’s advertising sector. The collaboration aims to introduce new solutions that cater to both traditional and digital OOH advertising, providing advertisers with more opportunities for engagement and growth.
