Sina.com Buys Focus Media’s Digital Out-of-Home Business In China

In one of the biggest Chinese technology deals of 2008, Chinese Internet portal Sina.com has entered into a definitive agreement worth about USD1 billion with Focus Media Holding Limited to acquire substantially all of the assets of Focus Media’s digital out-of-home advertising networks, including LCD display network, poster frame network and in-store network.

Focus Media will retain its Internet advertising division, the movie theater advertising network portion of its commercial location network and certain traditional billboards.

Harris Corporation Awarded $140 Million Order Under New IDIQ Contract from the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency

Harris Corporation, an international communications and information technology company, has received a $140 million order to provide systems integration and information technology (IT) services to the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA). NGA, a major intelligence and combat support agency of the Department of Defense, is acquiring the services under a new multi-vendor five-year, IDIQ (Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity) contract. Harris will perform the contract through its National Intelligence Programs business.

Harris was one of four companies that received the IDIQ award under the agency’s Applied IT Solutions (AITS) contract, which covers a broad range of engineering support, integration services, and related material needed to accelerate access to NGA’s GEOINT (geospatial intelligence) data and services and to transform the use of GEOINT across its customer base. The contract also provides continuity for NGA programs currently supported by Harris for imagery access and retrieval, such as the Web-based Access and Retrieval Portal (WARP).

Dubai office tower to get tallest LED screen

A 100m-high LED screen claimed to be the world’s tallest is to be erected on the side of a new office building in Dubai.

The screen is being built by Daktronics, whose recent work includes a giant display for Lamar Advertising on New York’s Times Square, as well as LED installations at the Argosy casino in Riverside, Missouri and the Grand Lisboa casino in Macao.

Framed in buffed aluminium, the screen on the side of the Podium building in the Dubailand development is expected to be visible 1.5km away. It will carry advertising, messaging and art, according to developer Tameer Holding.

The 35-storey structure will feature two storeys dedicated to retail at ground and mezzanine level, with the bulk of the building given over to office space.

Clear Channel Install Digital Signage Into New Orleans Airport

Clear Channel Interspace Airport Advertising has installed its latest 65″ high definition LCD digital signage screens and interactive kiosks in the Louis Armstrong International Airport in New Orleans.

The key applications will include interactive screens in the baggage areas – supporting hotel and tourist information with integrated mobile media Bluetooth wireless.

Clear Channel’s Interspace Airport Advertising business is partnered with aorund 200 airports internationally and the roll out of its digital signage option is gently gathering pace.
