eGlass: Transforming Modern Teaching Technologies with Enhanced Engagement

0

In the fast-evolving landscape of education, technology continues to play a pivotal role in redefining the way students learn and teachers instruct. Among the latest innovations in instructional technology, eGlass has emerged as a game-changer in digital signage tech for classrooms, revolutionizing the classroom experience and bridging the gap between educators and learners. In this article, we will delve into the details of eGlass, an illuminated transparent lightboard, and explore how it is effectively transforming modern teaching technologies, enhancing student engagement to unprecedented levels.

How eGlass Works

At its core, eGlass is a remarkable blend of cutting-edge technology and pedagogical principles. It boasts an illuminated transparent lightboard with a built-in camera, and its operational intricacies are as fascinating as they are effective.

Here’s a breakdown of how eGlass works:

  1. Teacher Writing on Glass Board: Teachers can write on eGlass just like they would on any traditional whiteboard. However, eGlass enhances the writing experience by employing ChromaClear technology, which gives the ink a vivid glow.
  2. Built-in Camera: The real magic happens with the built-in camera, which captures both the instructor’s writing and their face in a single image. This image is then flipped, ensuring that students see it correctly.
  3. Digital Integration: eGlass can be plugged into a laptop to display the image and add digital content, making it versatile for various teaching styles. It can also be connected to a screen or projector for in-class presentations.

The end result is an instructional tool that allows teachers to face their students, maintain eye contact, and engage with them while writing. This dramatically enhances the connection between educators and learners.

Perfect for Hybrid Classrooms

eGlass is designed to seamlessly integrate with all video conferencing platforms, including Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, and others, making it an ideal choice for hybrid classrooms. With virtual camera capabilities, full integration is built-in, ensuring that both in-person and remote students receive a high-quality education.

Backed By Research

eGlass is not just a novel concept; it’s backed by research and pedagogical principles. It has been shown to increase social-emotional learning (SEL), decrease cognitive load, and improve learning outcomes. By simulating eye-to-eye contact with each student, eGlass creates a social-emotional partnership between teachers and their students, resulting in significantly enhanced student engagement.

Moreover, eGlass aligns with Cognitive Load Theory (CLT), a prominent theory in educational psychology. CLT posits that students’ working memory can only hold a limited amount of information at any given time. When teachers turn their back to write on a traditional whiteboard or interactive display, they introduce new challenges that increase cognitive load.

eGlass, on the other hand, reduces this cognitive burden by combining auditory and visual information in an engaging manner. This, in turn, helps convert working memory into long-term memory, facilitating more effective knowledge acquisition.

The Makers of eGlass: Pathway Innovations Inc.

eGlass was a product of ‘Pathway Innovations Inc.’ who is also the makers of Hovercam. Pathway Innovations has been a leading provider for educational technology hardware and software since 2009. Headquartered in Las Vegas, NV, with a manufacturing base in Shenzhen, China, Pathway has research and development teams in both the United States and China, creating ground-breaking student engagement technologies.

This collaboration enhances shopper insights and advertising strategies across more than 350 Walmart Supercenter and Sam’s Club locations in Mexico.

Navori Labs has integrated its QL digital signage software with Aquaji analytics to create a unified solution for Walmart Connect, the omnichannel retail media business of Walmart de Mexico y Centroamerica. This solution is now operational in 173 Walmart Supercenters and 180 Sam’s Club locations, with an additional 20 stores set to follow.

Data-Driven Advertising and Customer Engagement

The Navori Labs solution empowers Walmart de Mexico y Centroamerica to collect valuable customer engagement data and offer comprehensive analytics, including shopper demographics, to their Digital Out-of-Home (DOOH) advertising partners. This integrated approach allows for seamless interoperability with QL’s digital signage content management and playout workflow.

Earlier this year, Walmart de Mexico y Centroamerica identified the potential of Navori Labs to develop a digital signage strategy supporting programmatic DOOH advertising, ad campaign management, and proof of playback reporting. Navori’s Aquaji solution provides essential shopper demographics and foot traffic data within QL’s CMS, along with proof of play data for advertisements.

Real-Time Analytics and Enhanced Campaign Strategies

The data collected through Aquaji cameras, installed near store entrances, is invaluable for fine-tuning campaign strategies based on real-time, store-level customer behaviors. Each store features a “Totem” with a built-in portrait display for digital signage content, powered by QL software.

Jonatan Fasano, Head of Product at Walmart Connect Mexico y Centroamerica, commented, “The Totem has an audience measurement camera that provides us with invaluable data, helping us better understand our customers’ consumption habits to offer segmented strategies based on our advertisers’ campaign objectives.”

Future Expansion and Advanced Features

Walmart Connect plans to expand the use of QL-powered displays and Aquaji cameras, integrating them with existing system-on-chip (SoC) displays. Additional QL features, including its advertising campaign module, advanced content scheduling, and context-aware automation for content playout, will automate content management, reducing the need for manual tasks.

The unified solution aids DOOH advertisers in maximizing their campaigns by targeting optimal days and times for their desired demographics. Jerome Moeri, CEO of Navori Labs, stated, “As the first to market with a unified digital signage and analytics solution, we are now seeing the benefits of this technology in action for Walmart de Mexico y Centroamerica and other Navori customers. The native interoperability of QL and Aquaji offers our customers an out-of-the-box solution that produces immediate results, making smarter business decisions and improving the customer experience.”

University Hospitals Enhances Employee Engagement with Signagelive

0

Cleveland, OH – In a bid to streamline communication and show unwavering support for its 5,000 healthcare professionals, University Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio, has introduced a cutting-edge Signagelive digital signage network. This innovative initiative spans across the University Hospitals’ 21 facilities and boasts a remarkable 82 screens and 80 BrightSign devices, creating a centralized platform for essential employee communications. This transformative system has revolutionized the way the hospital keeps its dedicated staff informed about crucial initiatives, events, health-related policies, news updates, and heartwarming patient stories.

Bridging the Communication Gap

Before the implementation of Signagelive, University Hospitals faced a significant challenge in effectively communicating with their healthcare professionals. With most of their time dedicated to patient care, traditional digital communication methods proved ineffective. Josh Petro, Unified Communications Architect at University Hospitals, explains, “Ninety percent of their time is actually spent helping patients. This made traditional digital communications pretty ineffective for us.”

A Solution Tailored to University Hospitals’ Needs

Recognizing the potential of digital signage in the hospital’s cafeterias, University Hospitals sought a system that was simple, intuitive, and mobile. “From an IT perspective, it needed to have a single pane glass, where we could look at all aspects of both players, content, and management of the content that allows us to put things out there effectively,” says Petro. Signagelive was the ideal choice for University Hospitals, meeting all their criteria.

Signagelive’s Centralized Platform

Signagelive’s centralized platform empowers teams to create, manage, and schedule content to one, some, or all screens in the network from anywhere, making it a versatile and practical solution.

Proving ROI and Cost-Savings

University Hospitals quickly realized a return on investment with Signagelive. The automated updates of doctor directories and the system’s smooth operation have resulted in significant cost-savings. Moreover, the use of QR codes to measure content impact provides stakeholders with valuable data to assess the system’s value.

Employee Appreciation and Patient Stories

In addition to keeping staff informed, University Hospitals leverages the cloud-based digital signage to express employee appreciation. Sharing inspiring patient stories underlines the profound impact healthcare professionals have on their patients’ lives during challenging times. Petro highlights, “You’re touching a person when they’re at the worst time of their life, potentially.”

Future Expansion and Patient-Facing Applications

University Hospitals has plans to expand the Signagelive network further. They are considering deploying additional Signagelive-powered meeting room digital signage, which seamlessly integrates with Barco ClickShare for wireless collaboration. The hospital also envisions extending the system to patient-facing areas, utilizing it for wayfinding and promoting additional patient services to boost revenue streams.

Advice from the Expert

For organizations contemplating digital signage, Petro offers this advice: “Do your research and make sure that you understand the capabilities of the companies you’re considering using. Not all assigned vendors are created equal, and we definitely found that out. So, don’t be afraid to ask for as many proofs of concepts as you need to ensure that the platform you choose definitely fits the needs of your organization. Any decision you make should be led by the business and its ultimate objectives.”

With Signagelive, University Hospitals has not only improved communication within its vast healthcare community but has also demonstrated its commitment to employee engagement, cost-efficiency, and patient care. The digital signage solution proves to be a game-changer in the healthcare sector, promising a brighter and more connected future for University Hospitals’ dedicated healthcare professionals.

Samsung Electronics, a global leader in technology and innovation, is set to redefine the world of display technology with its groundbreaking Micro LED technology. Micro LED, a display technology known for its ultra-small LEDs, promises to set new standards for picture quality and immersion. Samsung is ready to make this technology accessible to customers worldwide, starting with an impressive lineup of ultra-large displays ranging from 76 inches to a jaw-dropping 114 inches.

The Future of Displays Unveiled: Micro LED Technology

Samsung Electronics, holding the number one position in the global TV market for 18 consecutive years, has consistently pushed the boundaries of display innovation. Their latest breakthrough, Micro LED, is aptly named because it starts at the smallest unit. The technology relies on ultra-small LEDs, measuring less than 100 micrometers (㎛), which is thinner than a human hair. Unlike traditional displays, Micro LED is self-luminous, emitting light and color independently without the need for a backlight or color filter.

What sets Samsung’s Micro LED apart is the size of its LED elements, which are less than 50㎛, a mere 10% of the size of LEDs used in typical high-resolution displays. These LEDs are constructed from inorganic materials, eliminating burn-in issues and ensuring stable brightness and image quality for over 100,000 hours.

Micro LED stands out as the only display technology that delivers picture quality without light loss, thanks to its RGB self-luminous structure without a color filter. This makes it the ultimate choice for a fully immersive viewing experience, especially in larger sizes like the astonishing 114-inch display that blurs the line between reality and the screen.

A Six-Year Journey to Perfection

It took Samsung’s development team six years of hard work to bring this innovation to life. Many of the process technologies required for Micro LED were groundbreaking and had never been attempted before. Despite skepticism from experts in the industry, the development team embarked on the journey to internalize the core technologies needed for producing Micro LED.

The selection process for the optimal micro LEDs was akin to a gem appraiser choosing the finest diamonds. Only after scrutinizing more than 10 billion LEDs did Samsung’s engineers manage to develop a laser transfer mounting technology capable of positioning 24 million micro LEDs thinner than a human hair with pinpoint precision.

These meticulously assembled modules then undergo an “aging” process that involves hundreds of inspections and operations to ensure that every one of the 24 million LED elements is flawless. The goal is to produce an experience that’s perfect for customers and to eliminate even a single defective pixel over a ten-year lifespan.

Micro LEDs that have completed the aging process then go through a comprehensive calibration process, with each pixel receiving over 43,500 calibrations to achieve pixel-perfect quality. All processes are inspected in minute detail to ensure the best possible viewing experience.

The Ultimate Indoor Display

The end result of this meticulous craftsmanship is a display that combines the advantages of all existing TVs in the market, offering customers a truly exceptional experience. Samsung Electronics is also considering expanding the application of Micro LED to smaller displays, including digital signage and smartwatches, in the near future.

With 24 million ultra-small RGB elements that emit light and color independently, Micro LED promises to elevate the viewing experience for customers around the world. The future of display technology has arrived, and it starts with Samsung’s Micro LED.
