Daktronics, has launched its new Flip-Chip COB (Chip On Board) LED display technology globally. This latest addition to Daktronics’ Narrow Pixel Pitch (NPP) product line offers tighter pixel spacings, ranging from 1.8 millimeters to 0.9 millimeters, enhanced durability and reliability, and reduced power consumption, delivering an improved customer experience.
Innovative Features of Flip-Chip COB LED Display
The Flip-Chip COB technology provides an alternative to traditional Surface Mount Device (SMD) and Integrated Matrix Device (IMD) LED options. It generates less heat on the display surface and eliminates wire bonds to enhance reliability while lowering power consumption for cost-effective operation.
The new COB product features the thinnest and lightest cabinets available on the market. The integration of Daktronics’ Speed Frame installation process ensures quick setup with clean and sleek borders.
Daktronics has utilized over 35 years of experience in coatings and encapsulants to develop a specific encapsulant that provides a rich black matte finish. This ensures high-contrast, vibrant colors, and sharp imagery while protecting the product from impact, moisture, dust, static, and oxidation.
“Product reliability is extremely important to us at Daktronics, ensuring our projects are successful from day one and for many years to come,” said Jim Vasgaard, Daktronics national sales manager for the AV sales channel. “Our dedicated lab focuses on product and component testing to ensure we select the best parts that pass our stringent requirements, providing industry-leading reliability in our flip-chip COB LEDs, constant current drivers, power supplies, and encapsulants.”
Versatile Applications and Benefits
The Flip-Chip COB technology is versatile, offering various brightness options tailored for specific applications. It effectively combats indoor indirect sunlight, making it suitable for diverse settings such as office environments, high-ambient brightness lobbies, and concourses.
“The thin, lightweight design supports these applications, along with the screen’s durability. You can touch and tap on the display without worrying about damage,” added Gilliland. “We are excited to see these advantages implemented in multiple installations soon.”
