Daktronics Inc. (Nasdaq – DAKT) announced today, in conjunction with the University of Texas athletic department, the addition of a unique LED marquee that is helping to promote Texas athletic events and other happenings at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin. The display was installed and made its debut in April 2010.
The new video marquee is located adjacent to Interstate 35 at the Frank Erwin Center, home to the University of Texas men’s and women’s basketball programs. It measures approximately 23 feet high by 24 feet wide and provides ultra-wide viewing angles and unrivaled contrast. The marquee will keep students, athletes and University of Texas supporters informed of upcoming events and on-campus activities.
Daktronics has provided an integrated scoring and video system inside the Frank Erwin Center, with fans being entertained and informed during basketball games by digital LED centerhung and ribbon displays. The University of Texas also has Daktronics video and scoring technology at their football, aquatics, baseball, tennis and track and field venues.
“The University of Texas is a valued long-term customer of Daktronics,” Dan Fjeldheim, Daktronics Sales, said. “We’re happy to work with them again. This marquee will provide more opportunities of sponsor recognition for the university, as well as keep everyone on campus up to date with news and events.”
The display utilizes the very latest full-color display technology, with lines of LED pixels on 15 mm spacing. Features of the new technology include improved resolution and contrast, module and cabinet designs that are more resistant to weather, and an advanced ventilation system that increases the life of the display electronics. Operated with Daktronics proven digital display control system, content can be changed frequently at little to no cost, providing the University and its corporate partners more flexibility to reach the thousands that drive by each day with timely and relevant messages.
The display’s content is managed by Daktronics Visiconn® software. It is a control system that allows users to run their displays from any internet-ready computer. With the ability to integrate multiple display technologies (LED, LCD and others), the Visiconn® control system is the ideal solution for controlling digital display networks. The technology offers the capability to quickly create and display messages and graphics on the LED displays, allowing advertisers to better target their content to the audience at a particular location or certain time of day.
Digital marquees and billboards are becoming more commonplace at sports and entertainment venues because of their high visibility, the flexibility to change messages quickly and easily, and the value they provide corporate partners with another avenue for exposure, brand building and promotions.
