Daktronics Inc. (NASDAQ-Dakt) of Brookings, South Dakota and Nike have teamed up to light up Johannesburg, with a giant LED display, made of Daktronics ProPixel® LED elements, which is installed on the side of one of Johannesburg’s most iconic buildings, the Life Center.
Nike implemented Daktronics ProPixel PXS LED freeform lighting elements into the company’s latest interactive digital communications campaign, “Write the Future”, making this Africa’s largest interactive LED installation.
“The Daktronics display has far exceeded our expectations,” said Grant Neil, Sales & Product Manager of Spectrum Visual Networks. “The experience this display gives Nike consumers is beyond what anyone imagined. The unique display offers Nike a one-of-a-kind medium to engage and inspire football fans around the world.”
The ambitious interactive installation allows fans to submit personal messages through social media networks to inspire their favorite players, and then see their headline transformed into a huge player animation that towers over the city of Johannesburg.
Football fans from all over the world can submit a 57 character, maximum, personal message through five different social media networks. Up to one hundred individual messages are then chosen each night and displayed, along with digital player animations, on the Daktronics LED display, located on the top of the Life Centre Building, in downtown Johannesburg, overlooking the city.
The PXS LED video display, consisting of over 6,000 individual PXS-125 stick elements, measures approximately 42 meters (138 feet) wide by 44 meters (144 feet) high with pixels on 125 millimeter spacing.
