The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) and Sphere Entertainment Co. have announced a partnership to develop the world’s second Sphere venue in Abu Dhabi. This new entertainment destination aims to enhance the city’s cultural and tourism offerings, providing a unique, high-tech experience for residents and visitors.
The Sphere, first introduced in Las Vegas in 2023, has been widely praised for its innovative approach to live entertainment, combining advanced technology with immersive storytelling. The Abu Dhabi Sphere will follow this model, offering large-scale events, concerts, and experiences in a venue designed to engage audiences in new ways.
James L. Dolan, Executive Chairman and CEO of Sphere Entertainment, stated that this partnership marks a major step toward establishing a global network of Sphere venues. “Sphere is redefining live entertainment and extending the reach of its transformative impact. We are proud to collaborate with DCT Abu Dhabi to develop Sphere in their city,” Dolan said.
Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of DCT Abu Dhabi, emphasized how this project supports Abu Dhabi’s long-term vision. “Sphere Abu Dhabi will seamlessly integrate advanced technology with captivating storytelling, creating unforgettable experiences for everyone who visits,” he said. He also highlighted that this initiative aligns with Abu Dhabi’s Tourism Strategy 2030, which focuses on positioning the city as a hub for culture and innovation.
With over 24 million visitors in 2023, Abu Dhabi is set to further boost its tourism appeal through the new Sphere venue, which is expected to become a year-round attraction for live entertainment.
Under the terms of the agreement, DCT Abu Dhabi will finance the construction of the venue and pay Sphere Entertainment a franchise initiation fee. Sphere Entertainment will contribute its proprietary designs, technology, and intellectual property, along with expertise in development, construction, and pre-opening services.
Post-launch, Sphere Entertainment will continue to collaborate with DCT Abu Dhabi, providing creative content, brand licensing, and operational support. This includes access to Sphere’s original programming, such as its renowned Sphere Experiences, and ongoing advisory services.
