LG Electronics and City24/7 Launch Interactive Digital Signage in New York City

0

New York, NY – LG Electronics USA, in collaboration with City24/7, has introduced over 250 interactive touch-screen digital signage displays across Manhattan and the outer boroughs. This initiative aims to provide compelling, geo-targeted information and special promotions from local merchants, engaging both residents and tourists.

Revitalizing Urban Spaces with Touch-Screen Technology

The first of these innovative displays was unveiled in Manhattan’s Union Square, marking the beginning of a pilot program developed by City24/7 in partnership with the New York City Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications. These high-brightness 32-inch class (31.5 inches measured diagonally) LED displays from LG will replace existing phone kiosks, transforming them into interactive hubs that deliver real-time information on local events, dining, entertainment, shopping, and transport options. Users can make reservations and purchase tickets directly from the kiosks. Additionally, a companion mobile channel will extend the reach of this service, a development aligned with LG’s interest as a leading smartphone manufacturer.

Collaborative Efforts and Community Benefits

City24/7 has teamed up with various city agencies, local organizations, and content partners such as The Union Square Partnership, City Maps, Roadify, and Google Places. A portion of the revenue generated from advertisements on these platforms will be reinvested into the community, ensuring the program’s sustainable impact.

“In this innovative application, LG display innovations help create an interactive and engaging experience,” said Y.K. Cho, Senior Vice President, Commercial Displays, LG Electronics USA. “Our ruggedized outdoor high-definition LED touch-screen monitors were designed to be intuitive and user-friendly, and we are pleased to enable such an innovative project with our touch solution.”

High-Quality, Durable Displays

The LG touch-screen displays are designed to withstand the rigors of outdoor use. Featuring In-Plane Switching (IPS) panel technology, they offer accurate color saturation and contrast from wide viewing angles. The displays also have a high temperature tolerance, ensuring consistent picture quality even in extreme conditions. Additionally, they are ENERGY STAR® qualified and compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and they double as Wi-Fi hotspots.

Enhanced Brand Presence and Advertising

City24/7 CEO Tom Touchet highlighted the advantages of LG’s touch-screen displays, noting their image clarity and anti-reflective properties, which are crucial for outdoor installations. LG has also committed to a charter co-sponsorship, securing 50 percent of the advertising space on these displays. This means 17.5 minutes of every hour will feature LG content and branding. LG will further integrate its presence through City24/7’s mobile and web platforms.

“In addition to providing useful information to passersby, City24/7’s interactive kiosks with LG displays will deliver a compelling brand experience,” said James Fishler, Senior Vice President, Marketing and Go-to-Market Operations, LG Electronics USA. “This innovative program not only helps power communication for New Yorkers, but also is a key platform for expanding LG’s brand presence throughout the city.”

Expanding LG’s Technological Reach

This project exemplifies LG’s diverse product capabilities, including touch-screen solutions enhanced by collaborations with Horizon Display, Kristel, and Tech Global. LG’s commercial display solutions span a wide range of categories, from CINEMA 3D displays and LED HD monitors to large screen LCD HD monitors, stretch screen HD monitors, video conferencing systems, multipurpose HD projectors, and dynamic media players.
