BroadSign and Argo Launch DOOH Ad Buying Platform

0

BroadSign International has announced the launch of a new web platform that integrates its BroadSign Open software with Argo Digital Solution’s media planning and buying exchange, rVue. This collaboration marks a significant advance in DOOH advertising by facilitating full-cycle campaign fulfillment across multiple networks.

BroadSign International, a leader in digital signage solutions, is now inviting owners of digital signage networks powered by its software-as-a-service (SaaS) to join this innovative platform. This initiative allows media buyers to seamlessly view, target, and execute ad campaigns across various networks, enhancing the reach and effectiveness of DOOH campaigns.

Among the first to adopt this new platform is LevelVision:College, one of BroadSign’s largest customers, along with several other undisclosed networks. These early adopters have already made their advertising spaces available to media buyers through the BroadSign/rVue platform, setting a precedent for others in the industry.

Brian Dusho, President and Chief Strategy Officer of BroadSign International, highlighted the benefits of this integration. “Our relationship with Argo gives our networks an opportunity to be seen by mainstream media planners and advertisers via a unified interface that simplifies buying digital out-of-home,” Dusho stated. This system not only automates the planning and buying stages of advertising campaigns but also enhances campaign execution and reporting, streamlining the process for massive cross-network media buys.

LevelVision has particularly noted the ease of integration and the potential benefits. Bob Martin, President and CEO of LevelVision LLC and a former award-winning media director at Universal McCann, commented on the effectiveness of the rVue platform. “Through rVue, our unique and impactful digital floor screens will be accessible to a wider range of ad agencies looking to reach college students — when they’re on-campus and at-retail,” Martin said. He emphasized the power of this solution to help monetize networks through an easy-to-use, web-based user interface.

BC Ferries Uses Digital Menu Boards in New Vessels

Coastal ships harness digital signage in main food service areas

British Columbia Ferry Services Inc. (BC Ferries) has launched a digital signage network on three of its newest vessels, the Coastal Renaissance, Coastal Inspiration and Coastal Celebration. It partnered with Vancouver Island-based digital signage company The Data Works to develop a Scala software-based digital menu board system for the Coastal Cafe, the main food service area on each ship.

The Coastal Cafe is a popular destination, especially during the first 20 minutes of the ferry ride. Inspired by successful digital menu boards on the mainland, BC Ferries realized a digital signage network would allow for passengers to preview food options while they were waiting to enter the cafe, and it could be easily updated to reflect menu changes. It would also allow for cross-promotion of other ship amenities.

The Data Works helped develop a digital signage program that could be installed outside of the cafes on the new vessels. When the BC Ferries team wasn’t satisfied with its first software trial, The Data Works suggested they test Scala digital signage software instead. Richard Hyde, President of The Data Works, felt that Scala would give them the flexibility they were seeking, and that the interface would be more user-friendly.

“Scala gave us an amazing system in the sense that we can pre-program everything from our computers at our desks,” said Andrea Timlick, BC Ferries’ Marketing Manager for Food and Retail Operations. “From a marketing perspective, it gives us the ability to be much more creative and flexible with content.”

Currently, there are six 40-inch menu board screens on the three Coastal ships. Eventually, Timlick hopes to minimize paper signage in the main cafeterias of ships featuring digital menu boards. Another vessel, the Northern Expedition, will eventually feature both digital menu boards and passenger information screens, including local and destination-specific content. BC Ferries plans on extending the digital menu boards to its other ships, beginning with those on its highest-volume routes.

“Aboard the ferries, you have a captive audience,” said Hyde. “BC Ferries has several opportunities to use digital media, and with Scala they can control their content easily.”

Samsung Takes Lead in the Global Digital Signage Market

0

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., renowned for its leadership in digital media and convergence technologies, has secured the top position in the digital signage market, a burgeoning sector within the IT industry. This achievement is largely attributed to Samsung’s strategic shift towards LCD technology in digital signage applications.

According to a recent report by DisplaySearch released on June 18, 2009, Samsung now holds 13 percent of the global volume and 14.2 percent of revenue in the digital signage market. The report further highlighted a significant market shift, noting that the share of Plasma Display Panels (PDPs) fell from 70.1 percent in Q1 2007 to 33.1 percent in Q1 2009, while LCDs surged by 59 percent annually, capturing 69.9 percent of the market by Q1 2009.

Digital signage, also known as digital information displays, are large screens installed in public venues such as airports, shopping malls, and government buildings to convey information and advertisements. These digital solutions are replacing traditional analog signboards and TVs, with the market projected to reach USD 6 billion by 2015.

Samsung’s dominance is evident not only globally but also regionally, with significant market shares in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (17.9 percent in revenues), North America (12.2 percent), China (17.4 percent), Asia Pacific (23.6 percent), and South America (28.3 percent). The company has also established itself as a premium brand in the high-tech flat panel display market, achieving the highest average street price (ASP) of USD 1,282, approximately USD 100 more than its competitors.

In May 2009, Samsung further solidified its market position by releasing the 460UTn, a super-thin LCD display with a bezel distance of just 6.7mm, targeting the global video wall market. Additionally, Samsung introduced an innovative advertising display solution equipped with audience measurement technology that can recognize the gender and age of viewers to deliver customized advertising content.

Jinhwan Kim, Vice President of Visual Display Division at Samsung Electronics, expressed pride in the company’s achievements, stating, “Samsung Electronics has become the No.1 brand in visual displays including displays, TV sets, and digital signage. Particularly, becoming No.1 in digital signage is a historical event, proving that Samsung is successfully transitioning from a hardware manufacturer to a value-added solution provider.”
