Mitchell Corn Palace CenterhungDaktronics Inc. (Nasdaq-DAKT) of Brookings, S.D., announced today that it has been chosen to design, manufacture and install an integrated scoring, video and advertising display system for the City of Mitchell (S.D.) and the World’s Only Corn Palace, home to Mitchell High School and Dakota Wesleyan athletics.

Daktronics Sports Marketing (DSM), the in-house sports marketing agency of Daktronics Inc., has designed a unique business plan, generating long term revenues by selling corporate partnerships, with the City of Mitchell and the Corn Palace, which provides the integrated system at no cost to the university, the school district or the city, which operates the venue.

“We are very excited about teaming with Daktronics on this project. The Corn Palace has been voted one of the top-10 places for watching high school basketball and is often referred to as the Boston Garden of the Midwest,” said Mark Schilling, Corn Palace General Manager. “Daktronics is the world leader in digital boards and with their expertise in marketing plans the Corn Palace will be able to have state of the art equipment.”

The centerpiece of the system includes a centerhung display featuring two video displays with pixel spacing on 10 millimeter centers, each measuring approximately 8 feet high by 11 feet wide. The centerhung display also features dedicated scoreboard sections on two sides.

Daktronics has enhanced the existing line of indoor LED displays, now for use with live video capabilities. With the new displays content such as animations statistics, advertisements and live video can be shown in 4.4 trillion colors. The indoor LED video displays are an excellent complement to indoor standard scoreboards and provide an affordable solution for smaller facilities looking for a professional live video experience.

Courtside, fans and athletes will be informed and entertained with a scorer’s table, featuring 20 millimeter video displays and a scoreboard.

The integrated system also includes auxiliary displays, which also feature 20 millimeter video displays and scoreboards.

Custom signage and graphics will be incorporated throughout the facility, informing guests while also recognizing the sponsors that made the project possible.

Outside the Corn Palace, some 500,000 tourists from around the nation that visit each year will be informed of upcoming events and other information thanks to a video messaging display, measuring approximately 5 feet high by 7 feet wide.

“Daktronics and Daktronics Sports Marketing are excited to partner with the City of Mitchell to bring this state-of-the art system to the world famous Corn Palace,” said Jerry Sikkink, DSM sales. “The combination of our equipment and control system with this new facility will deliver a unique, exciting experience for fans, athletes and other patrons.”

“We’re extremely excited to have partnered with the Corn Palace on this project, said Chris Popowski, DSM sales. “We feel the new video and scoring equipment will make the Corn Palace one of the premier venues in the upper Midwest to watch and enjoy sporting events. Thanks to all our partners for making this project a success!“

The City of Mitchell, the Corn Palace and Daktronics appreciate the corporate support from the sponsors that made the project possible.
