Papa John Cardinal StadiumUniversity of Louisville football fans have noticed a big change while attending Cardinals games at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium (PJCS) this college football season, thanks to significant upgrades at the venue. With an expansion project just completed, the most impressive of these upgrades might be the additional integrated video and scoring displays provided by Daktronics Inc. (Nasdaq-DAKT) of Brookings S.D.

“We have a terrific long-term relationship with Daktronics and our fans have been the real beneficiaries of that ongoing connection,” said Tom Jurich, Vice President and Director of Athletics, University of Louisville. “Many of our current sporting venues are already equipped with Daktronics boards and we are excited about the new displays at our football stadium. We went with Daktronics because of their experience, expertise and reputation in the industry. Quality and performance are acutely important to us and our Daktronics boards have exceeded our expectations on both fronts. We are eager to incorporate the latest digital displays and the added excitement and gameday experience these upgrades will bring.”

Highlighting the new displays is a large LED (light emitting diode) video display located over the south endzone. Measuring approximately 20 feet high by 60 feet wide, the new display matches the existing Daktronics video board in the north endzone. The new video board can operate as an independent display showing single large images or be divided into multiple zones (windows) to show a wide variety of statistics, information, graphics, animations and live and recorded video in crystal clear content.

Mounted along the east and west fascia of the seating decks, Daktronics digital ribbon board technology entices fans with additional information and entertainment. Each display measures nearly 340 feet wide and is capable of showing game information and real-time team and player statistics, animations and cropped video clips to raise the crowd’s interest and enthusiasm level. These displays can also be used in a variety of creative ways to recognize and activate sponsors.

The integrated system continues outside the stadium with a video display installed on the backside of the south endzone display informing approaching fans. A double-sided full-color marquee display also informs passers-by on Central Avenue of upcoming events.

Along with PJCS, the University of Louisville relies on Daktronics equipment for many current venues including baseball, softball, lacrosse, field hockey, track, soccer, swimming and at the soon to open KFC Yum! Center, which will incorporate one of the most sophisticated digital display systems in the world.
