Digital signage “leading Chinese ad growth”

NSR logoDigital signage is taking a leading role in the growth of China’s advertising market, according to a new briefing from Northern Sky Research (NSR).

And the country’s biggest digital out-of-home firms have already deployed more than a third of the world’s digital-signage assets – fertile ground for growing revenue.

Citing Group M figures that suggest China will take 24 percent of global new advertising spend this year – more than any other country, including the U.S.  – and pointing out that its TV market still lags behind the developed world’s, NSR predicts that digital signage will pick up much of the new money.

Samsung Launches Mass Production of World’s Brightest 46-inch Digital Signage Panel

0

Samsung Electronics announced on Wednesday that it has commenced mass production of a new 46-inch “high-bright” digital signage panel, which is claimed to be the brightest LCD panel in the world. This innovative display is tailored for high-visibility applications in diverse environments such as transit centers, bus shelters, shopping malls, and point-of-sale locations in retail stores, effectively replacing traditional poster advertisements.

The newly developed panel boasts a luminance of 1,500 NITs, significantly outshining the brightness of standard LCD TVs, which typically have a luminance around 300 NITs. This enhancement makes the Samsung panel approximately three times brighter than a conventional television, ensuring that it remains clearly visible even under intense indoor lighting or direct sunlight.

Designed with versatility in mind, the panel features a resolution of 1,366 by 768 pixels and offers a wide viewing angle of 178 degrees. It can also be tiled seamlessly to create expansive outdoor and indoor video walls, enhancing its utility for commercial and public display applications.

Samsung’s achievement of such extreme brightness levels is attributed to the utilization of high-performance cold-cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFLs), which operate at very high currents and use an exceptionally thin color filter. These technological advancements are pivotal in the design and functionality of the new signage panel, setting a new benchmark in the industry.

With plans to begin volume shipping of these high-bright panels this month, Samsung is reinforcing its leadership in the display market. The company has recently overtaken Sony as the top LCD TV manufacturer in North America, capturing a 12.8% market share in the first quarter of the year, according to market research firm DisplaySearch.
