Fayetteville State University (FSU) in Fayetteville, N.C., recently debuted an integrated video, scoring, and advertising display system during the Broncos’ first game of the 2010 college football season. This state-of-the-art system was made possible through a partnership between FSU and Daktronics Sports Marketing (DSM), a division of Daktronics that specializes in generating corporate advertising revenues to finance such projects.
Partnership and Impact
“This couldn’t have happened without the mutual partnership between DSM and Fayetteville State University,” said Dr. Edward McLean, Director of Athletics. “What this offers to our athletics program, as well as our fans, university, and community is absolutely astounding. This gives us the opportunity to truly shine as a leader in our field and we are blessed to deliver the kind of fan experience that is long overdue. To see our fans in the stands on the big screen, cheering and supporting our team is phenomenal.”
Key Features of the New System
The centerpiece of FSU’s new system is an LED video display measuring approximately 12 feet high by 22 feet wide. This versatile video board can function as a single large display or be divided into multiple zones to show a variety of content, including statistics, information, graphics, animations, live and recorded video, and corporate partner recognition.
Beneath the video display, a Daktronics scoreboard provides game in-progress information with high brightness LED digits and programmable team name displays. The integrated system also extends outside the stadium with a full-color marquee display that greets and informs spectators arriving at campus events.
Corporate Sponsorship and Financing
Daktronics Sports Marketing played a crucial role in securing corporate partnerships that covered the entire cost of the system. Major partners include Doubletree Fayetteville, CenturyLink, FSU Athletic Club, Coca Cola, and the FSU Foundation.
“It was a challenging project, no doubt,” said LeAnn Holler, Project Development Manager and Advertising Sales Manager for DSM Southeast. “Hard work and determination between DSM, our Customer, and the Advertisers made this project a success.”
