JCDecaux Acquires Majority Stake in Mediakiosk, Expands Outdoor Advertising Reach

Paris, France – JCDecaux SA, the world’s leading outdoor advertising company, has signed an agreement with media distribution company Presstalis for the acquisition of a 95% equity interest in Mediakiosk. Under this agreement, JCDecaux will gain exclusive control over Mediakiosk, while Presstalis retains a minority stake of 5%. This acquisition is contingent on the fulfillment of certain conditions outlined in the contract.
Expanding Advertising Opportunities
Mediakiosk currently manages advertising space on 746 newsstands across France, generating €26.3 million in revenue in 2010, primarily from newspaper and periodical publishers. This acquisition will allow JCDecaux to leverage its expertise in outdoor advertising to enhance and expand the Mediakiosk network, which is strategically located in the heart of major French cities and towns.
Strategic Importance of Newsstands
Jean-Charles Decaux, co-CEO of JCDecaux, expressed his enthusiasm for the agreement: “We are pleased to have signed an agreement with Presstalis that should allow JCDecaux to acquire Mediakiosk and, in collaboration with press publishers’ representatives, ensure that newsstands continue to play a key role in the distribution of printed press in France. Decaux emphasized the historical and cultural significance of newsstands: “Newsstands have played an essential role in urban centers in France for more than a century and are a focal point to which local residents are deeply attached. Building on this rich heritage, JCDecaux will offer Mediakiosk the benefit of its expertise in outdoor advertising and its culture of innovation in street furniture to further develop and enhance this network, in line with the goals expressed by public authorities and the Association of French Mayors, while preserving Mediakiosk’s independence and corporate identity.”
