Mbombela Stadium Nelspruit World Cup 2010Large screen video displays are among the most visible elements of a sports facility. When it came time to prepare for and host the world’s largest sporting event, Daktronics (Nasdaq-DAKT) and partner Spectrum Visual Networks were chosen to provide integrated LED video display systems at two South African stadiums that hosted World Cup competition.

At Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium at Nelson Mandela Bay/Port Elisabeth, two large Daktronics displays have provided live and recorded video images and other information for thousands of fans. The stadium’s opening game was the fourth World Cup match between Korea Republic and Greece on June 12. Each of the two video displays measure approximately 5.2 meters (17 feet) high by 9.2 meters (30 feet) wide. Both displays incorporate LED pixels on 23 millimeter spacing. Each includes a dedicated LED scoring section below the video screen. Seven matches are to be held at this venue from June 12 through the third place match on July 10.

At Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit, a similar Daktronics system, with two 5.2 meter by 9.2 meter video displays, along Nelson Mandela Stadium Port Elizabeth World Cup 2010with Daktronics integrated control system, provided incredible video imagery and other information to fans at three matches on June 16th, 23rd, and 25th.

“When all eyes turned to South Africa and the Daktronics screens at these two stadiums, two things are certain,” according to Grant Neill of Spectrum Visual Networks. “The first is that fans will be dazzled by the superb picture quality and accuracy of the display screens. The second is that South Africans will stand tall and proud under the scrutiny of the world, knowing that we have given local and international football fans an experience never to be forgotten.”
