ViewSonic Corp., a leading global provider of visual display solutions, announced the launch of its expanded digital signage lineup at InfoComm 2009, including new RISC-based and X86-based media players and a range of small format signage displays. These products are designed to offer businesses and small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) more affordable, flexible digital signage solutions. The new releases also mark ViewSonic’s collaboration with Scala, a prominent player in digital content management software, enabling a new level of cost-effective scalability for digital signage networks.

New RISC-Based Media Players: NMP-550 and NMP-200

ViewSonic’s new NMP-550 and NMP-200 RISC-based media players are the result of a close collaboration with IAdea Corp., a leading middleware technology provider for digital signage. These models provide a reliable, solid-state alternative to traditional PC-based media players, making them ideal for cost-conscious deployments. As part of ViewSonic’s effort to lower the total cost of ownership for digital signage, both models are fully compatible with Scala’s Content Manager software (Release 5), reducing system costs significantly for businesses seeking high-quality, networked solutions.

  • NMP-550: Supports 1080p Full HD video playback with 4GB of onboard storage, providing ample space for dynamic media content. Priced at $799, the NMP-550 offers a premium digital signage solution for more demanding visual applications.
  • NMP-200: This entry-level media player supports 480p resolution and offers optional local storage. Priced at $299, the NMP-200 delivers a cost-effective solution for smaller screens and less resource-intensive installations.

Both media players come with ViewSonic’s Signage Manager Express software for easy content management and scheduling, making it simple to create, update, and manage digital signage content.

NMP-700: High-Performance X86-Based Media Player

For more intensive applications requiring advanced graphics and video processing, ViewSonic has introduced the NMP-700, an X86-based network media player featuring an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB of memory, and 160GB of storage. With its robust hardware specifications and high-performance video decoder, the NMP-700 supports complex digital signage applications that demand Full HD 1080p video playback and detailed graphics rendering. Compatible with a wide range of industry-leading digital signage software solutions, the NMP-700 is ideal for larger installations such as corporate lobbies, retail displays, and entertainment venues.

The NMP-700 is now available for an MSRP of $1,099, providing a powerful option for high-end digital signage installations.

Small Screen Display Solutions: CD1010, VFP1038, and VFP838

Expanding its commercial display offerings, ViewSonic also introduced three new small-format signage displays:

  • CD1010: A 10” commercial display featuring built-in 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and compatibility with Scala’s digital signage network. The CD1010 is a unique offering in its category, providing a compact and easy-to-deploy solution for digital signage in space-constrained environments. This commercial-grade frame will be available in Q3 2009.
  • VFP1038 and VFP838: These Wi-Fi enabled frames, available in 10” and 8” sizes respectively, support a high-resolution 4:3 aspect ratio and are compatible with FrameMedia’s SignChannel, a subscription-based digital signage service. This allows users to stream a variety of digital content, including news, weather, sports, traffic updates, and advertisements, making them ideal for small businesses seeking a personalized, low-cost signage solution. The VFP1038 is priced at $229.99, and the VFP838 is priced at $169.99, with SignChannel services available for an additional monthly fee.

In addition to streaming digital content, these frames support photo-sharing services such as Flickr and Picasa, as well as music and video playback. They also include calendar, alarm, and clock functionalities, providing a versatile multimedia display solution.
