In 2024, Europa-Park enhanced its wayfinding system by upgrading to state-of-the-art digital outdoor kiosks. The upgrade featured 75” portrait freestanding and 32” portrait wall-mounted imotion FLOW kiosks, customized to match the park’s diverse themes. The larger units, standing over four meters tall, are designed with precision and attention to detail.
Infinitus, a longstanding partner of Europa-Park since 2016, was selected for this project due to their proven track record and expertise in digital kiosk solutions.
Background
Europa-Park, located in Rust, Germany, is one of Europe’s largest and most popular theme parks. Ahead of the 2024 season, Europa-Park identified the need to update its wayfinding kiosk network to align with evolving visitor expectations. The park sought solutions that provided clear navigation and integrated seamlessly with its themed areas. Infinitus, known for their reliability and high-quality results, was the ideal partner for this endeavor. Their collaboration with Europa-Park since 2016 has established a foundation of trust and success.
Solution Implementation
Infinitus offered a tailored solution featuring advanced imotion FLOW digital kiosks. Europa-Park selected two kiosk sizes (75” and 32”) and two mounting options (freestanding and wall-mounted). The smaller units were strategically placed at park entrances to provide essential visitor information.
The larger 75” units, equipped with 4K high brightness LCD displays and touch screens, serve as prominent landmarks within the park. These displays not only promote park events but also provide interactive content for visitors.
Reasons for Choosing imotion FLOW Units:
Europa-Park chose imotion FLOW due to its proven reliability. The first FLOW products installed eight years ago continue to operate without issues. Reliability, with minimal downtime, was crucial for maintaining a positive visitor experience.
Reliability in imotion FLOW products is achieved through:
- Intelligence: Controlmotion software analyzes sensor data and acts accordingly. It alerts administrators in case of failure, manages temperature, adjusts brightness, and regulates fan speed.
- Material Selection: Only verified and tested components are used, based on 20 years of development.
- Post-Sales Support: Continuous support from the Infinitus team ensures critical failures are avoided.
Technical Features of the 75” Units:
- Displays: 75” 4K High Brightness LCD
- Protection: IP56, IK10
- Brightness: 3000 nits
- Smart Technology: Self-regulating systems with automatic maintenance alerts
- Height: 4311 mm
- Additional Features:
- Integrated touch screens
- Directional speakers
- USB cameras for analytics
- Wi-Fi antennas
- Custom-made clocks, remotely regulated
Challenges and Solutions
Customization was a key aspect of this project. The enclosures are truly remarkable, as seen from the photos. “Our team worked closely with the Europa-Park designer to create fully custom outdoor digital signs. This wouldn’t have been possible without our skilled workers in our production facility in Slovenia (EU), and we are very proud of them,” said Damjan Oven, CMO of Infinitus Outdoor.
The design process was complex. Creating customized enclosures for digital signs is challenging because the enclosure must not interfere with thermal management, a result of many years of development. Without proper thermal management, integrated components can overheat and become damaged. The most sensitive and expensive component is the LCD panel. As a manufacturer, we must be very careful not to interfere with thermal management while still matching the customer’s design.
For the 75” units, height posed an additional challenge. Enclosures had to be designed so they could be transported in separate parts and efficiently assembled on location.
Impact and Feedback
Visitors of Europa-Park confirmed the usability of digital outdoor signage on their website survey, where more than 70% of voters considered such an upgrade a useful addition.
Christof Zimmermann, Project Manager at Europa-Park: “Infinitus has responded to all our wishes. It was a close and intensive collaboration that has been a lot of fun.”
Installation and Launch
The installation took place from March 12 to March 14, 2024. The enhanced wayfinding network was launched on March 23, 2024, coinciding with the park’s seasonal opening.
Conclusion
The 2024 upgrade of Europa-Park’s digital wayfinding network demonstrates the value of reliable partnerships and customized technological solutions. Infinitus’ imotion FLOW kiosks have significantly improved the visitor experience. This project exemplifies Infinitus’ dedication to delivering high-quality, innovative solutions that meet customer needs.
