FlatFrog Laboratories AB, the Swedish developer of world leading multi-touch technology, announced today the commercial availability of its first product, the FlatFrog Multitouch 3200. The product, a 32” high-end multi-touch screen – primarily designed for the professional market, with early markets also including high end residential customers – is available throughout Europe through Maverick, Europe’s largest audio visual distributor, part of Tech Data.
“To have our first multi-touch product available in volume and ready to ship to customers through a great distribution network, is indeed a milestone for the company”, says CEO Christer Fåhreaus. “It has taken several years of arduous research and development to get to this point of commercial availability of our unique opto-electronic touch technology, and demonstrates that the technology is manufacturable in volume.”
Last month, FlatFrog announced a €20 million investment by Intel Capital and other investors, with the objective to bring the company’s unique Planar Scatter Detection (PSD) multi-touch technology to the consumer electronics market, in particular next generation Ultrabooks.
The FlatFrog Multitouch 3200 can be ordered with several accessories, for flush integration into an existing table or retail environment, or with an industrial design casing for mounting on the wall, or as table in either bar or sofa height.
FlatFrog sees retail, hospitality and events & exhibitions as the initial core industries for its multi-touch LCD display. But the advantages of the FlatFrog technology, such as responsiveness, superior accuracy and unparalleled optical clarity, are also generating interest from the high-end residential market.
The FlatFrog Multitouch 3200 uses an advanced optical in-glass multi-touch technology (PSD) developed and patented by FlatFrog Laboratories. Light is injected inside the top glass pane and scatters wherever the top surface is touched. This scattering effect is detected, and positions of several simultaneous touches are determined. The FlatFrog Multitouch 3200 is able to track 40 simultaneous touches at sub pixel accuracy, far beyond the capabilities of most competing solutions. Unlike some other touch technologies, the FlatFrog Multitouch 3200 can also be used with gloves and pens.
The FlatFrog Multitouch 3200, which is fully compatible with Windows 7 and the upcoming multi-touch enabled Windows 8, as well as Mac OS X, is distributed throughout Europe by Maverick in the UK. The product can now be ordered from stock and shipped within 48 hours anywhere in Europe. Distribution in the US and Asia is planned for the Autumn 2012.
Jon Sidwick, Maverick’s European Director commented “we see Multi-touch as a really strong opportunity offering the highest levels of performance making it ideal for integration into a wide range of projects where quality, performance and accuracy are essential. The 3200 extends our range of collaborative products adding a superb complementary solution.”
The Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price for a FlatFrog Multitouch 3200 is 5995 USD.
