Sharp NEC Display Solutions Europe has unveiled its latest advancements in energy-efficient ePaper technology at Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) 2025. The expanded lineup, featuring larger screen sizes and outdoor-compatible solutions, bridges the gap between digital signage and traditional static posters while reducing environmental impact.

The new ePaper displays align with standard DIN paper sizes, a globally recognized standardization system, including A3 (20”), A2 (28”), A1 (40”), and A0 (57”). These additions complement the existing EP-C131 (13.3”) and EP-C251 (25.3”) models, broadening applications for sectors such as retail, transportation, and public information systems.

A highlight at ISE will be the A0-size (57”) ePaper display integrated into a solar-powered totem with battery storage and wireless connectivity. Designed for outdoor digital out-of-home (DOOH) use, the solution eliminates cabling requirements and ensures uninterrupted operation, even during power outages. This innovation, first showcased at CEATEC 2024, a leading Japanese technology exhibition received Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award for its energy-saving capabilities and suitability for emergency messaging.

Sharp NEC’s ePaper technology uses Advanced Color ePaper (ACeP) to deliver high-quality images in full color without backlighting, reducing glare and blue light emissions. The displays consume power only during content updates, making them ideal for applications like menu boards, wayfinding systems, and point-of-sale promotions where static content changes periodically.

An integrated System on Chip (SoC) enables flexible content management via USB, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or partnerships with CMS providers. Users can update displays remotely through an intuitive app or online tool, simplifying maintenance.

“The Sharp ePaper display is generating significant interest for its potential in advancing carbon-neutral digital signage,” said Martin Lienau, Product Manager at Sharp NEC Display Solutions Europe. “This technology combines recycled components with resource conservation, while meeting the quality and durability standards our customers demand. We look forward to discussing its applications at ISE.”

The company emphasizes sustainability across its ePaper portfolio, aligning with global efforts to reduce energy consumption and waste in the signage industry.
