Glasgow, UK – Harp Visual Communications has chosen Remote Media’s cutting-edge technology to enhance Primesight’s digital signage advertising across Glasgow’s circular subway system. This significant upgrade includes partnerships with Key Systems, Samsung, and Scotland TV to deliver a comprehensive display solution on a historic transit network.
Digital display panels are now operational at five key stations: Partick, Shields Road, Hillhead, Buchanan Street, and St. Enoch, managed by Strathclyde Partnership for Transport. Positioned strategically in public concourses, entry areas, platform walls, and cross-track locations, these networked, addressable digital displays mark a pioneering achievement, being the first cross-track displays in the UK.
Innovative Integration and Enhanced Engagement
Jason Cremins, CEO of Remote Media Group, praised the project, stating, “This initiative exemplifies the seamless integration of digital technology into both venue operations and daily life for Glaswegians.”
Primesight’s Regional Director, Keith Lammie, highlighted the benefits for advertisers, noting that brands like B&Q and Nestle are already live on the network. “Advertisers can now deploy dynamic, time-specific creative executions, enhancing engagement with subway travelers.”
The digital displays feature signagelive® open standards content playback software, integrated into six-sheet format display enclosures developed by Harp Visual Communications. These enclosures house Rhino e55 LCD displays with embedded PCs and networking equipment, driving Samsung’s 55” SM550EXn panels. The latest LED backlight technology from Samsung ensures the panels consume only 90 watts of power, significantly reducing energy consumption and heat generation.
Ian Abernathy, Head of UK Sales for Large Format Display, emphasized the importance of efficiency in the underground environment, stating, “Our displays consume 200 watts less power than competing models, reducing heat by up to 50%.”
Robust and Resilient Display Technology
The IP66-rated weather-proof displays are built with structural steel and laminate protective glass to withstand harsh environmental conditions and tampering. Harp Visual’s extensive experience in passenger information and dynamic signage systems positions them as the prime contractor for supply, installation, maintenance, and daily operations, allowing Primesight to concentrate on media sales.
Seamless Advertising Management and Dynamic Content Delivery
The integration of signagelive® with Key Systems’ Fusion software enables Primesight to manage both digital and traditional advertising formats from a single platform. Ian Morris, Clients Service Director at Key Systems, explained, “This integration offers Primesight unparalleled control over its digital inventory, streamlining the management process.”
Advertising content is complemented by dynamic news, sports, and weather updates provided through a unique partnership with Scotland TV. An STV news segment runs every 3.5 minutes, engaging the subway’s 15 million annual passengers. STV Senior Advisor David Connolly expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, “This partnership allows STV to reach a broad audience in an innovative setting.”
