Today, in New York, Planar Systems, Inc.,(NASDAQ:PLNR), a worldwide leader in specialty display solutions, announced their custom Clarity Matrix video wall will be featured in the storefront of the Relative Space showroom, displaying the creative work of award-winning German architect, Juergen Mayer H. The video display is part of a larger traveling exhibit, which explores the aesthetic and technical innovations of creatives from Berlin, Germany, showcasing both emerging and established designers.
The exhibit ‘Berlin Happens’ is conceived jointly by architect Juergen Mayer H, recipient of the Audi Urban Future Award 2010, and Relative Space principal Tyler Greenberg. The show, featuring 10 designers’ individual custom creations, will be on view beginning May 14, 2011 in the New York City showroom, to correspond with the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF), and will then travel to the Toronto showroom of Relative Space & Floorworks for a dedicated opening on June 17, 2011. Both opening events are by invitation only to the Architecture and Design industry and global press, and the New York showroom will be open throughout the weekend of ICFF.
Says Juergen Mayer H: “In architecture, monitors and information media display the extra dimension. I am pleased to have the addition of Planar’s Clarity Matrix video wall as part of our Berlin inspired traveling design exhibit.”
Juergen Mayer H. is the founder and principal of this crossdisciplinairy studio J. MAYER H. .The buildings of J. MAYER H. are true eye-catchers – sculptural and spectacular….a glimpse into the architect’s methods introduces various examples of his work: the student canteen in Karlsruhe, an extension of the science park for children in Nordborg, Denmark and recent ‘Metropol Parasol’, the redevelopment of the Plaza de la Encarnacion in Seville, Spain. German architects of J. MAYER H. are constantly shifting the boundaries of architecture. Each of J. MAYER H.’s buildings shares a fundamental concept: the separation of floor, wall and ceiling appears to have been lifted, everything blends into everything else.. Another unusual aspect is the mix of materials. The ‘Metropol Parasol’ in Seville, his largest building to date, is made of polyurethane-coated timber. Some 3000 individual pieces were custom made for this gigantic, walk-in sculpture, all of them specially transported from Bavaria to Seville. This particular building, which houses an indoor market, a restaurant and an architectural museum was opened in March 2011.
In April 2011, Planar announced a new initiative to serve the specification needs of the Architecture and Design (A&D) industry, with its growing lineup of high-performance, easy-to-service displays for digital video wall applications, including the Clarity Matrix LCD video wall system. The initiative includes innovative exhibitions and communications to the A&D community, as well as new online tools, customized website at www.PlanarDigitalSignage.com, and creative partnerships.
Planar’s Clarity Matrix was the ideal choice for this innovative display. The product’s thin-profile mounting system (less than 3.6″) delivers the world’s only ADA-compliant LCD video wall and the image-to-image gap (which is as small as 5.7mm) delivers alluring imagery and a literal digital canvas for the design community.
Relative Space maintains a track record for sophisticated, contemporary design and boasts collaborations with acclaimed global architecture and design firms including Clodagh, Ian Schrager Hotel Group, Thompson Hotel Group, Rem Koolhaas, Skidmore Owings Merrill, David Rockwell and Philippe Starck YOO. Their Manhattan showroom is located at 2 Bond Street and their Toronto showroom is located at 365 Dupont Street West. Both facilities are open to the public.
