A2aMEDIA, a leading media company specializing in energy-efficient LED displays, has secured an agreement with the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey to install a cutting-edge digital display system at the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Times Square. The installation, slated for completion in June 2011, will feature A2aMEDIA’s innovative Mediamesh® technology, seamlessly integrating into the terminal’s architecture.
In collaboration with Garage-Media, A2aMEDIA will oversee the installation and operation of this extensive digital display, which aims to provide a lasting aesthetic upgrade and valuable advertising opportunities for both regional and national businesses. The installation will span approximately 6,000 square feet of the terminal’s façades on 42nd Street and 8th Avenue, complemented by an additional 25,000 square feet of architectural lighting synchronized with the display’s visual content.
Mediamesh® technology blends the dynamic capabilities of digital billboards, the interactivity of online media, and the visual impact of broadcast media, creating a compelling viewer experience. This technology utilizes patented stainless-steel mesh panels embedded with high-resolution LEDs, enabling vibrant motion graphics for various applications, including civic, entertainment, and advertising purposes. The Mediamesh® system maintains the transparency and breathability of the terminal’s architectural design, preserving its aesthetic appeal. Furthermore, it consumes 80 percent less power than traditional LED displays, marking a significant improvement in energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.
The decision to implement Mediamesh® at the Port Authority Bus Terminal is driven by its aesthetic transparency, durability, and its contribution to the terminal’s ongoing beautification efforts. The display will enhance the visual experience for passengers while offering advertisers a prime platform to reach over one million daily passersby.
The installation, providing up to 70 percent transparency, will cover the terminal’s exterior, allowing for unimpeded bus emissions and ensuring safety for both riders and employees. The vibrant digital media content will be visible from the sidewalk and street, creating the illusion of floating images over the terminal’s surface.
