Helius, a Hughes company, today announced it has been named a recipient of the Federal Government Distance Learning Association’s (FGDLA) Innovation Award for the development of emerging distance learning technologies that support the federal government. Additionally, the Law Enforcement Information Management Section (LEIM) of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) has recognized Helius for its contributions to law enforcement.

Helius received the Innovation Award at the FGDLA Annual Awards Ceremony for its support of the Government Alliance for Training & Education by Satellite (GATES) Summit and other distance learning activities benefitting the federal government. The FGDLA is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting use of distance learning in support of the education and training needs of federal government employees and military members.

“We appreciate Helius’ support of our organization,” said Philip J-L. Westfall, Ph.D., president of FGDLA. “The leadership and insight they have brought to the distance learning community have been invaluable. We selected Helius as this year’s Innovation Award recipient in recognition of their development of emerging distance learning technologies that directly support the federal government.”

At the recent 33rd Annual LEIM Section Annual Conference and Training Exposition (IACP) Helius was recognized for its contributions to law enforcement. Its digital communication solutions have been deployed at law enforcement agencies across the nation to improve training, internal communications, public relations, and ultimately, officer safety. The largest is for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s department, serving over 18,000 deputies and staff.

“We are honored to have been acknowledged by these two leading organizations,” said Mike Tippets, president of Helius. “Integrated distance learning and communications solutions are fundamentally important to federal, state, and local government agencies, and we are privileged to support their work in serving their constituents.”

The IACP is the world’s oldest and largest nonprofit membership organization of police executives. The Law Enforcement Information Management (LEIM) Section is a smaller subsection of executives and includes police chiefs, law enforcement executives, and technologists.
