Digital View, a leading manufacturer of digital signage hardware and display electronics, has introduced its latest OEM digital media boards, the M3-310 and DN-5, offering a unique direct drive capability for LCD panels. These newly released products allow businesses to develop custom-built LCD panel and media player solutions, making them ideal for retail and digital signage applications where high-quality video playback and system reliability are essential.
Innovative Media Players with Integrated LCD Panel Support
The M3-310 and DN-5 are not just digital video players—they feature integrated onboard LCD panel drivers, streamlining the hardware needed for digital signage displays. Traditionally, digital signage setups require multiple components to connect media players to LCD screens. Digital View’s new media boards eliminate this complexity by providing a direct connection to LCD panels, thereby reducing the amount of electronics required and ultimately lowering costs.
“These direct drive boards effectively cut out a third of the electronics traditionally required to build a digital signage display,” said Neil Wood, Product Director at Digital View Inc. “This means a more cost-effective and an even more reliable end product.”
The compact M3-310 and DN-5 media players support a range of display resolutions and media formats, allowing users to combine component LCD panels and media players with their own unique, custom-designed enclosures.
Key Features of the M3-310 and DN-5 Media Players
The M3-310 is a compact, USB-updatable media player designed for versatile use in digital signage applications. It features:
- Onboard LVDS & TTL connection for LCD panels up to UXGA (1600×1200) resolution.
- Media support for MPEG1/2/4 (DivX) and JPEG formats, alongside 44.1kHz stereo audio.
- Full interactivity options with on-board RS-232 for track control and I/R remote support.
- Playlist scheduling through an integrated real-time clock.
- USB stick support for quick and easy content updates.
With dimensions of 147mm x 92mm x 18mm and a weight of just 135g, the M3-310 is suitable for compact digital signage installations that require a low-power, high-reliability solution.
The DN-5 is a more advanced media player offering high-definition 1080P/60 media playback. Key features include:
- Comprehensive video output options such as HDMI, DVI, VGA, YPbPr, Composite, and S-Video.
- Support for a wide range of video formats, including MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 (DivX, XviD, AVC, H.264), QuickTime, and Windows Media Video.
- Professional audio capabilities with surround sound compatibility through digital AC3/DTS outputs.
- Network support for content upload via IP network or the internet, making it ideal for remotely managed digital signage systems.
The DN-5 board measures 137mm x 199mm x 33mm, making it slightly larger but equipped for more demanding media playback needs.
High Reliability and Ease of Use
Both the M3-310 and DN-5 media players are designed for reliability and ease of use. They feature a built-in Linux operating system and come with free media scheduling software, making them straightforward, “unpack & play” solutions. With a Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) exceeding 100,000 hours and a 3-year warranty, these media players are built to provide long-term, dependable service.
Designed for Versatile Applications
Digital View’s media players are widely used in digital signage, retail media, and museum markets, supporting features targeted at point-of-purchase (POP) messaging, product demonstrations, customer information kiosks, digital docents, and digital out-of-home (DOOH) advertising.
“With more than 100,000 Viewstream players sold, Digital View’s products have a proven track record of reliability and performance in the field,” commented Wood. “Our new M3-310 and DN-5 boards extend that legacy by offering advanced features and support for custom LCD panel integration, empowering businesses to create unique, engaging digital experiences.”
