Green SpinetiX technology selected by Texas Instruments for third-party LCD panels and projectors
Lausanne, Switzerland, 12 July 2010: SpinetiX is delighted to announce a new business relationship with Texas Instruments (TI), the globally renowned silicon manufacturer, supporting SpinetiX technology as its reference designer for digital signage solutions.
SpinetiX currently uses Texas Instruments? DaVinci™ video processors in its dedicated digital signage appliance, the HMP100™ Hyper Media Player. The processor performs real-time video decoding and high-definition scene composition, enabling customers to meet the requirements of changing standards in video codecs and provide software updates and new features to field-deployed units. Now the two companies are taking their partnership further, with TI?s ready-to-incorporate SpinetiX technology into its microprocessor chips for third-party LCD panels and projectors, tailored to digital signage applications.
“We want our chips to enable manufacturers to produce a product that is both a display and a digital signage player, all in one box,” said Debasish „Ron? Nag, director of business development, TI. “After evaluating a number of possibilities, we have come to the conclusion that the SpinetiX solution is one of the great solutions for us and for our manufacturer partners.”
Nag adds that the low power consumption, open-ended architecture and low bandwidth demands of the SpinetiX appliance are all key factors behind TI?s support for the Swiss company?s technology.
“We?re in a world where saving energy is paramount, and our products are designed from day one with this in mind, not as an afterthought,” said Nag. “The power consumption of an LCD panel and its incorporated electronics is no more than 12 watts, while the SpinetiX HMP100 draws just two watts. By comparison, a personal computer consumes around 25 to30 watts of power. We also like the fact that the HMP100 can create content without Flash, which tends to take up a lot of processor bandwidth and memory.”
