PPDS, the global provider of Philips digital signage and professional TVs, has expanded its manufacturing operations into India. This move is set to create approximately 400 jobs, fostering new opportunities for partners, customers, and the local community. This initiative aligns with PPDS’ ‘local for local’ strategy and supports the Indian government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative.

The ‘Make in India’ initiative, launched by the Prime Minister in September 2023, encourages companies to develop, manufacture, and assemble products domestically. The goal is to generate up to 100 million additional jobs, bolstering the local economy. India, valued at over $7.7 billion as the third-largest pro AV market in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, is projected to become the third-largest economy globally by 2028-2030.

PPDS has partnered with Mirc Electronics in Mumbai to manufacture a selected range of its advanced and best-selling Philips digital signage and interactive displays. Mirc Electronics, which has specialized in LED and LCD television manufacturing since 1981, employs over 5,000 people and provides assembly facilities for leading technology companies. PPDS has conducted extensive site visits and implemented thorough checks to ensure high standards of quality, working conditions, and sustainability. A specially trained team will maintain these standards for products manufactured in and distributed exclusively to the Indian market.

The Philips Professional Displays made in India have launched with the highly popular and versatile 43” Philips Signage Q-Line. This display, which can be mounted in both portrait and landscape orientations, is widely used across various industries, including public venues, retail, corporate environments, education, food and beverage, and entertainment such as sporting venues, arenas, and cinemas.

As part of its ‘Made in India’ strategy, PPDS is placing a significant focus on the education sector. The company aims to enhance its global drive to deliver excellence in classrooms and learning environments, promoting smarter and more collaborative teaching and learning experiences in schools, colleges, and universities. India’s EdTech industry is experiencing significant growth, with Forbes estimating it will reach $10.4 billion by 2025. This growth is driven by increased investment post-Covid and a rising demand for higher education, with India home to over 1,000 universities and 42,000 colleges, accommodating approximately 40 million students.

PPDS is actively seeking to expand its existing reseller base in India, which includes AV/IT integrators, consultants, and architects. This expansion aims to maximize access and exposure to all PPDS products and solutions in the region, ensuring comprehensive support for local partners and customers.

Martijn van der Woude, VP of Global Marketing and Business Development at PPDS, emphasized, “India is a crucial market for PPDS, offering significant opportunities to support business and positively impact employment and local communities. With our new manufacturing operations in Mumbai and the PPDS Studio in New Delhi, we are fully committed to supporting our partners and customers in India.”

Saurabh Bhambhani, India Business Head at PPDS, added, “This is a historic moment for PPDS in India, showcasing our dedication to this region. The past year has been incredibly exciting, with the expansion of our portfolio and the creation of new opportunities for our partners and customers to collaborate with us.”
