As the global shortage in semiconductors grows, the industry reaches its crisis point and experts warn it will also affect the digital signage industry to meet the customer requirements on time and be prepared to pay more for them.
The shortage in chips, the “brain” within every electronic device in the world, has been steadily worsening since last year due to Covid-19.
“There is a new level of demand and it really does impact on almost everything and it is getting worse,” says Evan Kay, Tech analyst at Pixlac. “Chips are the brain within every electronic device in the world and Covid-19 changed everyone to move online which fueled the chips demand, and we are facing a serious shortage in meeting customer requirements.
Initially, the problem was only a temporary delay in supplies as factories shut down when the coronavirus pandemic first hit. However, although production is back to normal, a new surge in demand driven by changing habits fueled by the pandemic means that it is now reaching a crisis point and it will continue to be an issue into next year.
