Peerless-AV has unveiled the PeerAirâ„¢ Pico Broadcaster, the first wireless broadcasting system designed to distribute HD content to an unlimited number of digital TVs over a 350-foot radius using vacant over-the-air broadcast frequencies known as white space channels. This innovative solution marks a significant leap forward in digital signage technology, offering greater range, scalability, and ease of use compared to traditional WiFi-based systems, which are limited to 150 feet and four screens.
The PeerAir Pico Broadcaster is on display at Booth #100 during the Digital Signage Expo 2013, which kicked off today in Las Vegas.
Maximum Reach with Minimal Complexity
Designed to broadcast the same content to multiple screens, the PeerAir Pico Broadcaster utilizes vacant UHF 500-700 MHz white space channels left unused following the U.S. transition from analog to digital television in 2009. The device streams HD-quality content (720p or 1080i) from a laptop-sized transmitter to any digital TV equipped with an ATSC tuner and over-the-air antenna within the broadcast range. This solution eliminates the need for additional receivers, power sources, or complex IT infrastructure, reducing both costs and setup time.
Unlike WiFi solutions, the PeerAir Pico Broadcaster offers improved through-the-wall signal transmission and maintains a strong connection even when screens are relocated, making it ideal for large-scale digital signage installations in venues such as malls, airports, or convention centers.
Simplified Content Management
Peerless-AV’s media streaming software enables seamless content management by converting a wide variety of video file formats (MPG, MOV, VOB, AVI, WMV, and more) into MPEG2 for broadcast. Users can easily create playlists by dragging and dropping files, which are then transferred over Ethernet to the Pico Broadcaster. The device includes a Local Area Network (LAN) port for both local and remote content management, offering more flexibility than most wireless systems.
Streamlined Channel Selection
A key feature of the PeerAir Pico Broadcaster is its user-friendly, web-based interface for identifying available white space channels. By entering the facility’s location, users can access an online database that shows available broadcast channels, along with FCC registration instructions. The first-year FCC license fee is included with the product, simplifying the setup process.
