Paul Smith’s College’s Joan Weill Library has been awarded a $2,410 grant by the Northern New York Library Network to go toward the purchase of a “Paul Smith’s Library Interactive Touchscreen Digital Signage” kiosk.
The library plans to purchase a touchscreen kiosk to be placed at its front entrance that would act as an interactive digital display allowing patrons to see live computer availability via a computerized map.
The library recently conducted a user survey and discovered that although there were often times computers available for use in the facility, because the machines are spread throughout the building, it is easy to assume none of them are vacant after only a cursory look around.
Students, faculty, staff and members of the public looking for information on the new kiosk will find an easy and innovative way to access immediate computer availability statistics upon entry into the library. The kiosk will additionally allow for the viewing of a library and campus map, upcoming programming events, and more.
The Northern New York Library Network, located in Potsdam, has been assisting libraries in the region develop research resources since 1965.
