LG Electronics, a long-time leader in the hospital TV market, is set to revolutionize the in-patient experience with the introduction of its new 42-inch class (42.0 inches measured diagonally) hospital-grade HDTV. The LG 42LD6DDH LCD TV, the largest screen size available for patient rooms, is scheduled to begin shipments in November 2011.
This state-of-the-art display aims to improve patient education and entertainment by offering larger text and more accessible on-screen menus. “LG’s new 42-inch class healthcare HDTV will provide hospitals with a large format display solution for patients who read and navigate on-screen menus and text from near their hospital bed, which can be anywhere from 12 to 15 feet from the footwall-mounted TV,” said Ron Snaidauf, vice president of Commercial Displays at LG Electronics USA. “A screen this large allows patients to read text and navigate menus easier than before. It will significantly improve the overall in-patient experience.”
The 42LD6DDH is designed with advanced setup options, allowing hospitals to set default start channels, volume levels, and control minimum and maximum audio levels. These features ensure a comfortable viewing experience in semi-private rooms. The TV also boasts a wide viewing angle, providing clear, detailed pictures from virtually any position in the room.
In addition to its user-friendly features, the 42LD6DDH is built with LG’s “EcoSmart” technology, which enhances energy efficiency and reduces power consumption. The Dynamic Power Savings feature adjusts power usage based on the brightness of video content, while a static backlighting option further decreases energy consumption. The Power Management feature automatically powers off the TV after a pre-set period of inactivity, promoting cost savings for hospitals.
Snaidauf highlighted the inclusion of LG’s Prodigital rights management (DRM) system in the 42LD6DDH. This system allows for the secure delivery of premium HDTV content from cable, satellite, and video-on-demand services, ensuring a high-quality viewing experience for patients.
The 42LD6DDH also supports multiple Pillow Speaker codes, enhancing compatibility with existing nurse-call systems. It meets several safety and environmental standards, including UL 60065 Annex Q, FCC Part 15 Class-B, ICES-003, RoHS, and CEC (California Energy Commission). Additional features include USB Cloning capabilities, an MPI interface port, and a two-year limited warranty.
