Omnivex strikes a deal with the Portland Trail Blazers
Omnivex Corporation, Microsoft Gold Partner and provider of enterprise software for digital signage networks, announced that they have won a contract with the Portland Trail Blazers. Omnivex’s newest software, Moxie, will be used on machines running Windows 7 at Portland’s Rose Garden Arena to manage an extensive network of digital signage. The 20,000-plus capacity venue is the main indoor sports arena in Portland, Oregon, and is used for large indoor events, including basketball, ice hockey, rodeos, circuses, conventions, ice shows, and concerts. It is also home to the Portland Trail Blazers NBA franchise.
Omnivex Moxie software will be used to create content and manage a digital signage network of nearly 250 LCDs. Screens range in size from 32 to 47 inches and will be located throughout the facility’s many concession stands. The main purpose of the network is to improve the visitor experience by providing them with clear access to information such as menu items, pricing and real-time messages. The system will be augmented with advertising and sponsor branding.
Moxie software was selected to manage the Rose Garden’s system following an extensive competitive analysis and testing process. “We selected Omnivex from a pool of about eight or nine vendors,” said Chris Dill, Chief Information Officer, Portland Trail Blazers. “We really like their ability to create an ad management module, which is going to allow us to run the ads, manage the ads, schedule the ads and provide records of which ads ran.”
Moxie software has the ability to easily pull information from an existing database, such as the Micros 9700 POS system, format it and display it on the appropriate screen, automatically. This greatly reduces the operating costs associated with maintaining such a large network. Moxie’s campaign management functionality also allows customers to create rules regarding when and where specified advertisements and other content should and should not be shown.
“We are pleased to have been awarded this business with the Portland Trail Blazers,” said Omnivex CEO Doug Bannister. He continued, “Omnivex software has a long track record with our previous products, but we are excited to be entering a new phase of software development, furthering our product offerings to better suit the changing needs of our customers.”
Future plans for digital signage at the Rose Garden include screens in the luxury skyboxes and throughout the common areas of the concourses, and could possibly extend to the adjoining convention center space at a later date. The system will go live during the Trail Blazer’s pre-season opening game in October.
