IdeaLAB’s battery-powered 40-inch interactive kiosks to debut at GlobalShop

ideaLAB BP 40
“These units directly address a hole in the digital fixture and merchandising market for products that offer the kind of flexibility - in every respect – that brands and retailers are looking for.” — Chester Niziol, Partner at IdeaLAB Innovation Corp

The result of more than two years of research and design refinement by the Toronto-based ideaLAB (www.idealabinnovationcorp.com), the two distinct battery-powered units can run as long as 14 hours off of a battery pack built into the slim enclosures. The designs successfully bridge needs for durability, ease of repositioning and safety with attractive lines that comfortably blend into busy retail and public environments.

BP40 units have a 40-inch LED-backlit LCD display set in portrait mode and are capable of running full HD video. Designed primarily for marketing, promotions and merchandising, the units also have touchscreen overlay options for interactive applications, using onscreen navigation or even pop-up digital keyboards.

BP24 units are intended for more intimate, two-way interaction and feature a 24-inch LED backlit LCD – set lower and at an angle to enable easy consumer navigation and input.

Both designs have easily-accessed compartments for a small form-factor PC or media player used to drive the information screens. Digital signage and interactive software is optional and not restricted to any proprietary solutions.

Unique to the BP-40 is a friendly design that allows retailers, brands and event operators to apply large-format vinyl print graphics to both the screen-side and back panels of the units, making the entire units marketing and promotion engines. Slotted standards on the sides of the 40-inch units allow for merchandising racks, sleeves and holders to be positioned as needed. The front fascia of the BP24 is also designed to accept print graphics.

“These units directly address a hole in the digital fixture and merchandising market for products that offer the kind of flexibility – in every respect – that brands and retailers are looking for,” says Chester Niziol, a Partner at IdeaLAB Innovation Corp. “We designed the units to operate full retail or trade show days without direct power. We also ensured the units were easily re-positioned around a venue, by just one person. The units can also be presented and then re-purposed endlessly through new creative on the screens and new print cladding the fixtures. They have chameleon qualities.”

The units have a built-in recharging cord and take approximately nine hours to progress for drained to fully re-charge. The units run on either DC or AC, cutting over with a simple switch. Both versions also have a positive braking mechanism that ensures safety and security.

Target applications include retail fixturing for sales promotions and product launches, interactive directories, wayfinding stations, and product knowledge/look-up stations at trade shows, museums and other public facilities.

IdeaLAB Partner Bud Morris, whose own firm Canada’s Best Store Fixtures has the GlobalShop booth (#1964), says flexibility extends to the product approach. While the BP24 and 40 have standard designs, customization for end-user needs is readily done, and the products can be bought outright or rented through a developing partner program. The units can be networked for remote updating and management.

A working unit will be on display the trade show booth, and IdeaLAB representatives available to answer questions.  GlobalShop (www.globalshop.org) is the world’s largest annual event for retail design and shopper marketing. The show runs March 28-30 at the Sands Expo and Convention Center in Las Vegas.
