IIJ Develops New Solution to Provide Emergency Earthquake Bulletins via Digital Signage on Vending Machines
3 min read
Internet Initiative Japan Inc, one of Japan’s leading Internet access and comprehensive network solutions providers, today announced it is targeting a summer 2012 release for the new Disaster Information Linked Content Distribution Solution. This new solution will provide distribution infrastructure for special content-such as emergency earthquake and tsunami warnings and other disaster information-via the digital signage installed on vending machines.
In addition to distributing content, this solution also provides a content management system (CMS) for adding and editing content, an Internet connectivity for connecting vending machines equipped with digital signage functions to a distribution server, and all the various components necessary for distributing information to digital signage. This service was designed primarily for use by municipal governments on their digital signage installed in public buildings, and with the distribution server and CMS provided as a cloud service by IIJ, signage can be used for distributing information without the government having to purchase its own equipment.
Solution highlights include the following
- Provides CMS which makes it easy to distribute information
- Emergency earthquake bulletins distributed via the IIJ Earthquake Alert Service
- Distribution of urgent disaster information, such as earthquake and tsunami warnings, get top priority
- Provides a cloud environment and Internet network infrastructure that is resistant to disasters
- VPN network provided for secure connections between digital signage system and information distribution infrastructure
- Mobile connection or fixed-line connection provided depending on the environment where the vending machine is installed
Vending machines with digital signage functions have received much attention recently as a means of distributing information during a disaster. Installation of this solution can transform a vending machine into a dynamic information distribution point, serving as a channel for special content under normal circumstances, while serving as a channel for emergency information during a disaster.
IIJ will provide this solution to DyDo DRINCO, INC., for the company’s Disaster Support Vending Machines. IIJ will provide a complete package for distributing disaster information, including the distribution system, distribution environment, and other components. Starting May 30, 2012, at the Wireless Japan 2012 tradeshow at Tokyo Big Sight, IIJ will have one of DyDo’s Disaster Support Vending Machines installed at the IIJ booth to demonstrate the system.
IIJ will continue to fulfill client needs by rolling out solutions optimized for each industry.
