Sydney, Australia — The recently unveiled BBC Earth Experience in Melbourne goes beyond being a mere immersive exploration of the natural world; it stands as a technological masterpiece, a result of the pioneering partnership between TDC (Technology and Development Company) and HIVE.

Narrated by the legendary Sir David Attenborough, the BBC Earth Experience, now open at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, is a multi-room digital art exhibition produced in partnership with Moon Eye Productions, Live Nation, BBC Studios, and Tinker Imagineers. What sets the Melbourne edition apart is the advanced playback technology employed, courtesy of TDC’s strategic integration of HIVE’s revolutionary BeeBlade media server.

In a revealing behind-the-scenes video, Michael Hassett, Managing Director of TDC, emphasizes the transformative impact of HIVE’s technology. “The main difference is that we’re inserting the HIVE players in the projectors, and the great thing about that is it saves a lot of space and power. There’s no cable distribution system, no control room, just the media player in the projectors in the venue.”

The collaboration has powered the exhibit with 70 Panasonic projectors, with 55 creating a central 360-degree high-resolution immersive panorama exceeding 127 million pixels. HIVE’s proprietary software ensures precise positioning and timing for each projector, delivering an unparalleled visual experience.

This marks another milestone for TDC, known for their cutting-edge video technology in various applications. Following their involvement in projects for the Australian Museum, Australian National Maritime Museum, and the upcoming Dream Circus at Luna Park, Sydney, TDC has once again showcased their commitment to pushing technological boundaries.

“The fusion of technologies at Melbourne’s BBC Earth Experience is a harbinger of a new, greener, and transformative approach to digital storytelling,” highlights Hassett. “It is an evolutionary leap, saving time, money, and the planet.”
