Atlantic 10 Conference Schools Upgrade with Daktronics

Facility upgrades include new light emitting diode (LED) video and scoring systems for basketball, volleyball and football.

The University of Richmond in Richmond, Va., will have even more to cheer about this football season as their fans at the new E. Claiborne Robins Stadium are greeted by a new integrated video and scoring system. The large, state-of-the-art video display will measure more than 19 feet high by 35 feet wide and will be flanked by two custom scoreboards and integrated with an auxiliary video display measuring eight feet high by 18 feet wide. The system will meet the challenge of serving not only for football, but also Richmond lacrosse and track and field sports teams.

“The game-day atmosphere will be so much better in the new stadium,” Director of Athletics Jim Miller said. “The new facility will provide outstanding opportunities to bring students, athletes and the community together for sporting events and other activities. The Daktronics equipment will help us fill the 8,700 seats for every event. It will be really exciting.”

Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pa., added a custom-designed centerhung video board as part of a $1.8 million renovation project for the A.J. Palumbo Center, home of Duquesne men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball. The four-sided display will feature video displays with 10mm pixel spacing – perfect for indoor sports and advertising with each of the displays measuring approximately seven feet high by 13 feet wide. Four lower level corner displays will also be installed at the center, which will be integrated with the centerhung displays.

“The improvements will impact our program by adding to the game-day atmosphere and at the same time contribute greatly to our home court advantage,” Head Men’s Basketball Coach Ron Everhart said in a university news release. “A new-look Palumbo Center will greatly help us in recruiting.”

George Washington University will also install a new integrated video, scoring and advertising system in the Charles E. Smith Center, home to GW men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball and gymnastics. The system will include a centerhung installation of four LED video displays measuring approximately 10 feet high by 17 feet wide, with pixels spaced at 10mm. This display will be the largest Daktronics 10mm basketball displays in the Mid-Atlantic region and will be among the largest in college basketball. Five digital scorer’s tables are also included in the project, each measuring more than three feet high by nine feet wide, or approximately 45 feet total. As the tables are digital, GW organizations and sponsors will have virtually limitless options for displaying their dynamic information to the cheering crowds during games.

“This upgrade will provide a state-of-the-art experience to George Washington athletics at the Smith Center,” Athletic Director Jack Kvancz. “The flexibility of live video with sponsor messages and stat information provides even greater value to our fans and corporate partners.”
