LG Display_LogoLG Display Co., Ltd. , a leading innovator of thin-film transistor liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) technology, announced that it will showcase next-generation technologies and cutting-edge products at DSE 2011(Digital Signage Expo 2011), scheduled to take place in Las Vegas, USA from February 23 to 24.

LG Display plans to unveil its cutting-edge technological capacities and next-generation technologies in the area of public display, demonstrating the limitless possibilities of displays.

Vice President Jun Joon, head of Public Display Department at LG Display noted, “Unlike the TV and IT display markets that have reached maturity and are showing signs of slowing down, the public display market is one of the emerging markets with the highest growth potential. We plan to take an aggressive approach in pioneering the market by introducing our leading technologies to a greater number of customers at the exhibition.”

Public display is one of the most promising high growth potential display markets. Market researcher iSuppli predicts that the public display market will post rapid growth of over 9% GAGR from an estimated USD10.9 billion in 2010 to USD14.0 billion in 2013. In particular, iSuppli forecasts that LCD panels would account for a greater portion of the market, from 28% in 2010 to 39% in 2013. Furthermore, total volume of the LCD unit sales will grow 23% annually from an estimated 11 million in 2010 to 21 in 2013.

LG Display will launch a campaign to capture the public display market with its differentiated leading-edge technology.

■ Outdoor solution realizing natural images without blackening effect

LG Display has developed the world’s first LCD panel that can display clear images even when the surface temperature up to110°Celsius.

The conventional LCD panel’s part starts to turn black when surface temperature exceeds 75°C. For instance, when outdoor is 30°C, the surface temperature of the LCD panels reaches to 85°C. Meanwhile, LG Display’s Public display LCD panel employs a proprietary liquid crystal structure technology that enables the screen to continue showing images even when the temperature rises up to110°C. This specialized Liquid crystal is applied to all the LG Display’s Public Display panel.

Above that LG Display employs IPS and shineout technology panel. Shineout indicates Anti-reflection coating that conveys a low light reflection rate under 2%. Furthermore, high brightness by LED backlight enables the highest level of brightness (2000cd/㎡) currently possible. As a result, the images shown outdoors are much brighter and clearer than before.

■LCD Panel Featuring the World’s Narrowest Bezel

LG Display will reveal an LCD panel for public displays featuring the world’s narrowest bezel. The public display panel will be shown in a 111-inch multi-vision format featuring nine 37-inch panels. The boarder (bezel) is just 4mm between panels, enabling natural-looking images and the freedom to change the shape and form of public displays.

Also the panel is based on the concept of freely expanding the size of public displays as necessary. With a thinner border allowing for seamless images, there are no limits to the number of panels that can be put together or constraints in terms of screen size or form.

■Innovative product: Mirror Display

LG Display will also unveil a 32-inch mirror display at the exhibition. This smart panel, which is a mirror ordinarily, can turns into a display when approached by people or whenever necessary. Working both as a mirror and a screen to display advertisements, the product has high potential for commercialization in the near future.

■Next-Generation Technology: Window Display

LG Display will show a wide range of next-generation products. One such product is the advanced 47-inch window display that can be used as a regular window glass and as a transparent display with a mere touch. The panel can not only be used as a ‘smart window’ with its brightness control function for sunlight, but can also be utilized as display screen. The panel can be used in the darkness during the night time by using its LED backlight embedded. Vice versa in a day time, panel can be used without backlight, therefore saving power consumption greatly. Also its touch function (optical touch method using infrared sensor) enables the display to appear like an ordinary window with the button-less design.
