IIJ Develops New Solution to Provide Emergency Earthquake Bulletins via Digital Signage on Vending Machines http://www.signageinfo.com/news/18226/iij-develops-new-solution-to-provide-emergency-earthquake-bulletins-via-digital-signage-on-vending-machines/ http://www.signageinfo.com/news/18226/iij-develops-new-solution-to-provide-emergency-earthquake-bulletins-via-digital-signage-on-vending-machines/#comments Fri, 25 May 2012 19:30:21 +0000 SITeam http://www.signageinfo.com/?p=18226 Internet Initiative Japan Inc, one of Japan’s leading Internet access and comprehensive network solutions providers, today announced it is targeting a summer 2012 release for the new Disaster Information Linked Content Distribution Solution. This new solution will provide distribution infrastructure for special content-such as emergency earthquake and tsunami warnings and other disaster information-via the digital signage installed on vending machines.

In addition to distributing content, this solution also provides a content management system (CMS) for adding and editing content, an Internet connectivity for connecting vending machines equipped with digital signage functions to a distribution server, and all the various components necessary for distributing information to digital signage. This service was designed primarily for use by municipal governments on their digital signage installed in public buildings, and with the distribution server and CMS provided as a cloud service by IIJ, signage can be used for distributing information without the government having to purchase its own equipment.

Solution highlights include the following

  • Provides CMS which makes it easy to distribute information
  • Emergency earthquake bulletins distributed via the IIJ Earthquake Alert Service
  • Distribution of urgent disaster information, such as earthquake and tsunami warnings, get top priority
  • Provides a cloud environment and Internet network infrastructure that is resistant to disasters
  • VPN network provided for secure connections between digital signage system and information distribution infrastructure
  • Mobile connection or fixed-line connection provided depending on the environment where the vending machine is installed

Vending machines with digital signage functions have received much attention recently as a means of distributing information during a disaster. Installation of this solution can transform a vending machine into a dynamic information distribution point, serving as a channel for special content under normal circumstances, while serving as a channel for emergency information during a disaster.

IIJ will provide this solution to DyDo DRINCO, INC., for the company’s Disaster Support Vending Machines. IIJ will provide a complete package for distributing disaster information, including the distribution system, distribution environment, and other components. Starting May 30, 2012, at the Wireless Japan 2012 tradeshow at Tokyo Big Sight, IIJ will have one of DyDo’s Disaster Support Vending Machines installed at the IIJ booth to demonstrate the system.

IIJ will continue to fulfill client needs by rolling out solutions optimized for each industry.

Creating Videos is Easier than Ever with new VSI 2.0 http://www.signageinfo.com/news/17126/creating-videos-is-easier-than-ever-with-new-vsi-2-0/ http://www.signageinfo.com/news/17126/creating-videos-is-easier-than-ever-with-new-vsi-2-0/#comments Fri, 27 Apr 2012 13:20:50 +0000 SITeam http://www.signageinfo.com/?p=17126 Visible Spectrum, Inc. (“VSI”) located in Burr Ridge, IL . . . having just completed its 1200thcustom video composition . . . today introduced VSI 2.0, a major enhancement of its web-based system for effortlessly creating videos in HD for any digital platform.

Creating videos is now easier than ever because VSI 2.0 allows users to more easily drag and drop images and/or video from VSI’s 17.5 million asset cloud to compositions, via VSI’s newly designed media browser and content editor now simultaneously available on the user’s screen.  VSI 2.0 also allows the user to upload directly to Brightcove for distribution, in appropriate file formats, to all digital platforms.

John Malec, VSI CEO, stated:  “One of the key advantages of VSI’s cloud-based video creation tool is the ability to preview compositions in real time, importing stock video and image assets without requiring purchase of these assets at the preview stage.  Only at VSI can a user evaluate stock assets in real time in the context of the composition being created.  VSI 2.0 makes that process easier than ever.”

VSI 2.0 also grants access to a library of images of current consumer packaged goods for the first time.  These images, provided via a partnerships agreement with itemMaster.com, are available via VSI’s platform at no cost for use in point-of-sale promotions and other authorized purposes.

VSI also offers a White Label and an Enterprise License that provide additional capabilities.  Licensed users may create and upload their own templates for subsequent customization on the platform.  They may automate the customization of content by linking to a database to fill in price or text fields.  And, they receive secure private storage of assets in VSI’s cloud.

White Label Licensees run VSI’s functionality on their own web site, wrapped in their branding.  They also are provided with direct placement of video files into their Content Management Software (CMS) via an API.

Founded in 2011, Visible Spectrum, Inc. provides a web-based cloud platform for creating custom HD video for any digital platform – Internet, TV, DOOH or Mobile platforms.  At VSI, you always get to see it before you buy it.  Only when the user is satisfied with the final result is the composition purchased – at a low cost usually between $125 and $250.  Customized copies of any master composition may be produced for only $15.

MediaTile, the leader in 3G and 4G cloud-based digital signage solutions, today announced that it has extended its HumanKiosk™ product line featuring MediaCast™ Video Presence with a new, smaller-footprint 19” configuration.  As with HumanKiosk 32” and 42” configurations, the HumanKiosk 19” utilizes the MediaCast Video Presence system to deliver a revolutionary breakthrough in consumer engagement with both interactive digital promotions and live 2-way, face-to-face video conversations.  The solution enables companies to augment traditional human staffing with lower cost-per-touch, virtual alternatives to increase both their market reach and relevance, and maximize the efficiencies of trained personnel. MediaTile is demonstrating the new solution, available now for pilot programs, at CETW in San Francisco on April 27th and 28th in the DFI Technology, a MediaTile technology supplier, booth # 712.  The HumanKiosk 19” is powered by MediaCast Video Presence and staffed by OnCall Experts™ from MarketStar.

“The new HumanKiosk 19” is getting much attention and the MediaCast Video Presence solution has been receiving high praise during recent private showings with customers and partners,” said Simon Wilson, CEO of MediaTile.  “We are excited to add this smaller, more intimate configuration to the product lineup and make it immediately available for our pilot programs.  Early reaction has been highly favorable as our clients are looking to add the “human element” directly into their marketing and selling programs yet need a smaller, tablet-like solution where there is insufficient room to accommodate the larger, free-standing kiosk-style systems.”

The HumanKiosk product is powered by MediaCast Video Presence, the world’s first commercially available, cloud-based video call routing and CMS system that leverages the latest 4G wireless networks from major carriers.  The complete solution requires nothing more than a power outlet for deployment and operation.  Brands, retailers, hotels, healthcare providers, corporations and government agencies can leverage the HumanKiosk to deliver expert knowledge directly to consumers without requiring on-site staff, in addition to running interactive digital promotions.  HumanKiosk pilot programs are now available with general product availability in the 2nd half of 2011.

Christie Managed Services Extends Projector Services To In-Lobby Digital Signage Support; Rave Motion Pictures Signs On http://www.signageinfo.com/news/7177/christie-managed-services-extends-projector-services-to-in-lobby-digital-signage-support-rave-motion-pictures-signs-on/ http://www.signageinfo.com/news/7177/christie-managed-services-extends-projector-services-to-in-lobby-digital-signage-support-rave-motion-pictures-signs-on/#comments Wed, 30 Mar 2011 16:49:05 +0000 KeelAha http://www.signageinfo.com/?p=7177 Faster, Pro-Active Management of Cinema Chain’s Signage Program Delivered by Christie Managed Services (CMS)

Rave Motion Pictures, the fifth largest chain of movie theaters in the United States, has more time to focus on innovation in cinema technology, optimizing seating plans and other operational aspects, resulting from a services alliance with Christie Managed Services (CMS).  A longtime user of Christie projectors, Rave is now entrusting CMS to service its entire Lobby Entertainment Network (LEN).

“As a large and decentralized operation, we were having a hard time finding a good outsourced provider for our digital signage needs,” said Brad Wardlow, vice president of operations for Rave Motion Pictures. “We have 61 locations in 21 states, and all too often outages resulted in inoperable displays in the common areas of our lobby and concession spaces, with the resultant repairs being expensive and taking a long time to complete. We needed find a worry-free solution so we could concentrate on our business, which is to deliver a total theater experience to our movie-patron customers.”

In addition to movie projectors, Rave provides a Lobby Entertainment Network (LEN) air show display over concession areas, more than 500 digital menu boards, LED way-finder signage, and extensive LED signage in its box offices. A previous provider had often used distant, non-local technicians, causing high travel and accommodation costs and longer time frames to service and support these products. In contrast, CMS created a one-stop, manageable strategy that addresses ongoing preventive maintenance as well as immediate attention to any problems.

“This solution makes total sense for us operationally, financially and aesthetically,” said Wardlow. “The only question we have been asking ourselves is ‘why did we take so long to make the decision?’ We’re getting faster service, more preventative/proactive management of our signage program, and all at lower costs.”

“Christie and Rave collaborated to identify sites, create inventories of assets and to develop a more planned, life-cycle approach to managing these assets, versus a reactive approach to emergencies,” said Sean James, vice president, Christie Managed Services. “The CMS approach is to provide a support strategy which minimizes the amount of down time and expense associated with deploying the technology cinema owners want to use. By leveraging our technology and national networks of people and parts, we are able to significantly improve the availability of displays and projection systems.

With expertise developed over 80 years serving the cinema industry, Christie Managed Services works with each customer to deploy, monitor and support their commercial displays. Christie’s U.S. Network Operation Center (NOC) offers 24/7/365 monitoring, technical help desk and configuration management and preventive servicing as well as on-site emergency response. The program serves hundreds of organizations in the cinema and other industries.

Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) Shops go digital and partner with DAT Media http://www.signageinfo.com/digital-signage/6052/australian-broadcasting-corporation-abc-shops-go-digital-and-partner-with-dat-media/ http://www.signageinfo.com/digital-signage/6052/australian-broadcasting-corporation-abc-shops-go-digital-and-partner-with-dat-media/#comments Wed, 02 Feb 2011 04:11:46 +0000 KeelAha http://www.signageinfo.com/?p=6052 DAT Media has won the three year contract to supply, install and maintain the digital signage network for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s (ABC) retail shops throughout Australia.

DAT Media, who specialise in digital signage and interactive kiosk solutions for retailers and businesses, responded to a Request For Tender issued by the ABC to provide an in-store solution for their 47 stores around Australia.

DAT Media pitched a unique solution to the ABC in order to provide a custom built system that was easy to use but provided the fundamental functionality of a digital signage network that would promote ABC products and programmes in-store.  After previously using a third party content management system (CMS), DAT Media developed its unique proprietary CMS two years ago, which differentiates the business from other digital signage providers.  The system, which connects directly to DAT Media’s network can update content instantly in-store and be tailored to suit the ABC’s in-store requirements.

As part of providing a custom fit audio visual digital signage solution for the ABC, DAT Media developed the functionality to broadcast ABC News within the digital signage display to play at key times throughout the day.  An RSS feed was also incorporated within the digital signage displays to provide news at the bottom of the screen in a ticker format.  DAT Media is also looking at working with the ABC to provide a remotely managed in-store audio system which can be incorporated into the new digital signage systems in-store.

DAT Media Managing director Andrew Becker says the company is very proud to have won the contract out of a group of some major industry players.

“We have customised our proprietary content management system (CMS) specifically for ABC Retail and their needs, and feel confident they will enjoy the many benefits of this tool over the years to come.”

Mr Becker says the ABC Retail team have been quite sophisticated in their adoption and understanding of digital signage and the opportunities it presents, which means they are able to discuss the possibilities of new technology offerings for future implementation.

“Adding ABC Retail to our client list, which currently includes BIG W, Dick Smith and Woolworths means our foothold in the retail space continues to grow. We are starting to see the results of plenty of hard work which is pleasing and we look forward to developing a mutually successful partnership with ABC Retail over the coming years,” says Mr Becker.

TrendMedia chooses Stinova’s Digital Signage Software for Large Format Outdoor LED-Screen Network in West Austria http://www.signageinfo.com/digital-signage/5392/trendmedia-chooses-stinovas-digital-signage-software-for-large-format-outdoor-led-screen-network-in-west-austria/ http://www.signageinfo.com/digital-signage/5392/trendmedia-chooses-stinovas-digital-signage-software-for-large-format-outdoor-led-screen-network-in-west-austria/#comments Tue, 30 Nov 2010 08:09:56 +0000 KeelAha http://www.signageinfo.com/?p=5392 Stinova’s professional Digital Signage Software solution successfully controls TrendMedia’s OOH large format Outdoor LED-Screen network throughout western Austria. TrendMedia is an Austrian and Liechtenstein based Media Service Provider who markets outdoor advertising on their network of large format Outdoor LED displays. The benefits of large format Outdoor LED displays in high-traffic areas are that they provide a content rich multi-media outdoor advertising experience with greater flexibility and shorter less expensive production times. Using bright, animated images TrendMedia offers its customers targeted brand marketing and even provides free community content to qualified interest groups.

The OOH Digital Signage Network is managed via Stinova’s browser based Digital Media Server CMS software. Campaigns can be created using meta data based keyword scheduling for targeted play-out of content at the proper time in the right location. The large format screens are controlled by Stinova„s Digital Media Player (DMP) Software, installed on a robust industrial grade embedded PC player hardware that is connected via a UMTS router to the Internet. The permanent internet connectivity means new advertisements can be added within a few minutes. A specific window-mode setting on the DMP software configuration enables the play-out at dedicated screen areas and fulfills the requirements of controlling large format LED displays.

“We are pleased to have Stinova as our Digital Signage solutions partner, this leaves us free to concentrate on our core competency as a Media Solution Provider for the sale of outdoor advertisements“, says Julian Eiter, CEO of TrendMedia. „Besides the flexibility and scalability of Stinova’s software solution, an important criteria was finding a partner who could offer quick and cost efficient product customization so that the system matches all traffic conformity regulations“.

The LED displays are available in 4:3 or 16:9 geometry covering a surface from 4.92 sq meters (52.96 sq feet) up to 60 sq meters (645.6 sq feet) and are built from modularized weatherproof enclosures (IP65 norm). This allows the outdoor usage at ambient temperatures from -25°C up to +40°C. The 16 Bit colour technology supports up to 5 billion colours and provides superior colour fidelity and smoother transitions. The brightness of up to 6000 nits or cd/sq meter is perfectly suited for direct sunlight. The integrated ambient light sensor allows smooth brightness control to comply with the regulations for day and night brightness.

Franz Hintermayr, CEO of Stinova added: “We see large format LED screen outdoor advertising as a fast growing market segment with an extremely high customer reach. With TrendMedia we have found a partner that has long term experience as a network operator in the outdoor advertising sector and has successfully implemented their network throughout western Austria.“ He continues: „A further expansion of their OOH-Network is planned for 2011 across Austria”.

NEC Display Solutions Introduces Vukunet Universal Platform for Out-Of-Home Digital Advertising http://www.signageinfo.com/digital-signage/2031/nec-display-solutions-introduces-vukunet-universal-platform-for-out-of-home-digital-advertising/ http://www.signageinfo.com/digital-signage/2031/nec-display-solutions-introduces-vukunet-universal-platform-for-out-of-home-digital-advertising/#comments Tue, 10 Nov 2009 10:50:33 +0000 KeelAha http://www.signageinfo.com/?p=2031 NEC Display Solutions of America, a leading provider of commercial LCD display and projector solutions, today announced the widespread availability of its new VUKUNET web platform for digital out-of-home networks. VUKUNET solves the main issues facing both network owners and advertisers by providing a centralized, automated platform designed specifically to connect and distribute ads to digital out-of-home (DOOH) networks.

NEC Display Solutions is a leader in the digital signage market as recognized by Frost and Sullivan with its 2008 digital signage customer value enhancement award.  NEC Display Solutions’ knowledge and success in the digital signage market continuously helps cultivate new opportunities for its customers and channel partners. NEC Display Solutions is committed to growing the entire digital signage market and this innovative thinking takes them into a new space — digital out-of-home advertising.

“Digital place-based media has proven itself to be a very powerful and effective advertising medium, yet it is still under-utilized because it has always been impossible for agencies and advertisers to connect all networks and purchase effectively,” said Pierre Richer, President and COO at NEC Display Solutions. “We created VUKUNET to address all the issues in this space, allowing network owners to realize the full value of their investments in equipment, service and real estate.”

VUKUNET (www.vukunet.com) helps digital signage network owners generate incremental income by making it easier to connect all screens that currently have time/space available on their networks to advertise. Ideal candidates are networks that have locations with heavy foot traffic, substantial dwell time (time spent in front of the screen), strategic monitor placement, numerous locations in key demographic areas, and that can run a variety of ads from different advertisers instead of being focused on a single brand. Retails stores, hotels, airports, rail and bus terminals, universities, hospitals, convention centers, stadiums, museums and restaurants are a few examples of these locations.

VUKUNET is a breakthrough in digital out-of-home advertising because it is the only platform that connects all digital signage networks, with the ability to provide the largest single reach in the industry. Advertisers and ad agencies that formerly had to contact hundreds of potential network owners to determine rates and availability can now use the companion ADVUKU ad-serving platform to search for the best networks in any location. In addition, the proof-of-performance automated technology enables networks to receive a consolidated payment on a monthly basis for all the advertising that ran.

The VUKUNET platform is completely agnostic, meaning ads can be distributed to screens from any manufacturer, not just NEC and networks that are using any CMS (content management system). There is no charge to become a member of VUKUNET.  It consists of VUKUNET Ad Manager, which enables networks to run ads on their screens and an optional VUKUNET CMS, which is a fully-equipped SaaS (Software as a Service) Content Management System available for free to VUKUNET Ad Manager participants as well as NEC Display hardware customers.

“VUKUNET is a tremendous asset to network owners who want to increase the profitability and lower the costs of their networks,” said Richer. “By centralizing the entire process, we’ve made it easier to fulfill the potential place-based media holds within the advertising world. It really elevates digital signage to the sophistication level of all other media and finally fulfills its long awaited potential.”
