The University of Texas Upgrades Facilities with Daktronics DispStarting this fall, the Panthers of Eastern Illinois University will see their gridiron shine underneath an integrated Daktronics scoring, video, and sound system. The Brookings, S.D., based company (Nasdaq – DAKT) has announced that it will design, manufacture, and install the new system this summer for EIU on its campus in Charleston, Ill.

A Daktronics HD-16 light emitting diode (LED) video display measuring approximately 13 feet high and 23 feet wide will rest at the core of the Panthers’ new system. This video display will use the latest Daktronics industry-leading HD-X technology and will sit atop a new Daktronics LED scoreboard, complete with programmable team name message centers. The completed display, to measure 28 feet high and 45 feet wide, will help make O’Brien Field one of the top football facilities in the Ohio Valley Conference.

“I am excited for this new video board to be installed, as it will bring a whole new dimension to events at O’Brien Field,” said Barbara Burke, EIU Athletic Director. “This is something that will benefit our intercollegiate athletic programs for years to come.”

Daktronics is also providing a Sportsound® 1500HD audio system to Eastern Illinois, which will deliver game announcements to every seat at O’Brien Field with power and clarity, thanks to a speaker cabinet measuring over 20 feet wide. In addition to the video display and sound system, Eastern Illinois University is set to receive LED timing displays, which will keep track of delay of game and time of day information for the Panthers and their fans.

“This new video board and sound system just shows another way that Athletic Director Barbara Burke and the EIU administration are working to upgrade our programs,” said EIU Head Football Coach Bob Spoo. “This will put us in elite company among Ohio Valley Conference schools and help draw people into the stands for our home football games. We have an excellent football program and this will only enhance the experience for our fans and teams.”

“This scoreboard will be a great addition to our home Eastern Illinois track meets as well as the IHSA State meet,” said EIU Director of Track and Field Tom Akers. “We currently have a video display board for our home indoor meets and it has a great impact when you can post immediate results. This will be a fantastic addition for all of athletics.”

“Daktronics is excited to partner with Eastern Illinois University and bring the latest in LED and audio technology to O’Brien Field,” said Matt Warnke, Daktronics Sales. “Eastern Illinois University will be the first college in both the state of Illinois and the Ohio Valley Conference to install our HD-X product. This new system will help provide Panther fans with even more exciting athletic events.”

Daktronics HD-X technology and its control system allow for complete flexibility in programming. The Panthers’ new video display will be able to serve as a single display or be divided into multiple zones (windows) to show a wide variety of statistics, information, graphics, animation and live and recorded video.
