Broadcast International (BI), a leading provider of video-powered broadcast solutions, elected telecom executive, Donald A. Harris, to its board of directors effective June 11, 2012. His appointment will increase the total number of company directors to six, with four serving independently.
Harris brings to the company more than 20 years of experience in the IT services and telecommunications industries. He is currently president of 1162 Management, a private equity firm. He previously served as chairman, CEO and president of UbiquiTel, a leading provider of digital wireless personal communications services and NASDAQ-listed company before it was acquired for $1.3 billion by Sprint Nextel Corp. in 2006. He was also past president of Comcast Cellular Communications, following various senior management positions with Comcast Corp. and PacTel.
“Don brings to our board tremendous industry knowledge and experiences that will help guide Broadcast as it continues to pursue expansion into IP video, particularly with content delivery providers like cable TV operators and Telcos,” noted William Boyd, chairman of Broadcast International. “His appointment represents one of several important steps we have taken to support the accelerated build-out of our CodecSys customer base.”
Harris also presently serves on the board of nFinanSe, a leading provider of stored value and general purpose reloadable cards. He began his career as a consultant with McKinsey & Company after graduating from The United States Military Academy at West Point and earning his Master’s degree in Business Administration from Columbia University.
“I’m excited to join Broadcast International’s board at this pivotal time in the company’s development,” commented Harris. “With its unique IP video technology, Broadcast is operating in the ‘sweet spot’ of the global transformation of traditional broadcast television to multi-screen, OTT and enterprise IP video solutions. This has been demonstrated by recent major client wins, as well as partnerships with major players, like Fujitsu. The CodecSys technology is clearly disruptive as the only real-time, multi-codec compression technology in the market today, and serves as a powerful way to capitalize on the transition to IP video.”
